2016 Fantasy Football Week 6 Buy Low/Sell High

Buy Low

Quarterback

Matthew Stafford (QB6) – Stafford may be a buy low candidate after throwing for just 180 yards on Sunday. While his three touchdowns helped his fantasy total, he still finished with just 18 fantasy points. In week 4, Stafford posted a measly 7 fantasy points against the Bears. Stafford currently sits at QB6 this year, but his owners may be a little nervous after the last two weeks. I still believe Stafford is a 5-7 QB this season, so if you can get him for less, I’d do it. I mention Stafford, because I recently traded for him in two leagues and he was easier to trade for than I thought.

Also buy: Marcus Mariota (QB14), Alex Smith (QB24), Russell Wilson (QB25)

Running Back

Lamar Miller (RB25) – I still believe Miller is a buy low, and I’m guessing you can get him really low after he received just eight carries for two fantasy points in week 5.

Doug Martin (RB63) – Martin is currently injured and will likely be out until after the Buccaneers’ week 6 bye. The Buccaneers just placed Charles Sims on injured reserve, and my biggest knock on Martin at the beginning of the year was Sims would take some of the work. If Sims is out for the fantasy season, its likely Martin sees an increased workload once he returns from injury. Jacquizz Rodgers looked good on Monday night, but I can’t see him taking over the entire Sims’ role once Martin is healthy.

Also buy: Bilal Powell (RB44)

Wide Receiver

Julio Jones (WR2) – If Julio’s owners are worried after seeing scores of 1, 36, 2 over the past three weeks, it’s time to buy Julio.

Stefon Diggs (WR25) – Diggs exploded to start the season, but followed it up with back-to-back four-point weeks, and missed week 5 with an injury. Diggs has a week to rest but will see a tough matchup when he returns in week 7 against Philadelphia. The perfect time to buy may be after week 7, but I’ve found it easier to buy players heading into a bye week. After week 7, he has one of the best schedules for a receiver for the remainder of the year. The Vikings will see Chicago, Detroit twice, Washington and Dallas. During the fantasy playoffs, the Vikings play Jacksonville, Indianapolis and Green Bay.

Odell Beckham Jr. (WR27) – I still think it’s time to buy Odell Beckham Jr. simply because I find it difficult to believe Eli Manning will continue to play as poorly as he has been.

Also buy: DeAndre Hopkins (WR23), Brandin Cooks (34), Jeremy Maclin (WR49), Donte Moncrief (WR90)

Tight End

Jordan Reed (TE2) – This may be a bit of a stretch, but Reed has single-digit fantasy points in all but one game this season. The good news is he’s second in the league in targets to a tight end. The touchdowns will come as they did in week 4. I’ll take the targets every week, especially in a season where it’s been difficult to find a consistent tight end outside of Greg Olsen.

Also buy: Dennis Pitta (TE17)

Sell High

Running Back

Tevin Coleman (RB7) – Here are Coleman’s rushing yards each week this season: 22, 46, 42, 19, 31. Coleman hasn’t had more than 12 carries in any game this year, yet is the RB7. This is due to 313 receiving yards on just 21 targets. Per ESPN’s Mike Clay, Coleman is averaging 18.4 yards per reception, but only has an average depth of target of 2.5 yards. This shows Coleman’s receiving yards are likely to regress on a per-reception basis. Additionally, Coleman has four rushing touchdowns on only 46 carries. Teammate Devonta Freeman led the league in rushing touchdowns last season with 11 on 265 rushing attempts. On average, Freeman scored every 24 attempts in 2015. Coleman has scored once every 11.5 attempts in 2016. With his receiving numbers and touchdown numbers likely to regress, it’s also likely we’ll see regression in Coleman’s fantasy production.

Melvin Gordon (RB5) – Gordon has double-digit fantasy points and a touchdown in each week this season and is the current RB5. The problem is, Gordon has 56 percent of his fantasy points from touchdowns this year and averages only 3.36 yard per carry. His touchdown numbers will regress, and if you can sell Gordon as a top five running back, you should.

Also sell: Carlos Hyde (RB4)

Wide Receiver

Demaryius Thomas (WR9) – Demaryius Thomas is one of my favorite players in the NFL, however, I’d be surprised if he continues his fantasy production. Thomas has 54 fantasy points on only 34 targets. He’s 17 targets behind teammate Emmanuel Sanders, 26 targets behind Mike Evans (the current target leader) and 22 targets behind Antonio Brown (the current fantasy point leader among wide receivers). No players in the top ten wide receivers have fewer targets than Thomas, and only two wide receivers in the top 20 at the position have fewer targets than Thomas. Those two are Sammie Coates and Eddie Royal. I’m not convinced Thomas can keep up this production with the lack of opportunities.

Also sell: Larry Fitzgerald (WR6), Michael Crabtree (WR7), Sammie Coates (WR14)

Tight End

Hunter Henry (TE8) – Henry had three impressive weeks in a row, but only had four targets in week 5 with the return of Antonio Gates. With Gates in the lineup, Henry will split time with one of the best tight ends ever. I don’t think the targets will be there to sustain Henry as a top-ten tight end as long as Gates is healthy.
