2016 Fantasy Football: Week 8 Sit/Start

Make sure you start the right guys, and that starts by checking out my sit and start recommendations. If you are one of the owners dealing with under performers, bye weeks, or injuries and you need help figuring out who to start, I am here to help. If the guy you are stressing over is not on this list feel free to hit me up at @mikekelleydlp with any additional sit/start questions you might have. Or you can join my Facebook Group, Dynasty League Problems and be a part of the conversation. Good luck this week to everyone, unless I am playing in one of my leagues.

NoHalftime

NoHalftime START of the Week:

RB Spencer Ware (K.C.)

Jamaal Charles is done, and that is as simply as I can put it. He is 29 years old and barely a year removed from a major injury. He will only ever be a shell of his former self. That said Ware is firmly planted in his old spot. No as explosive as Charles was at times, but none the less still a very good player and this week against the Colts he is a must start. The Colts are just about the league’s worst run defense and Ware should have no problem running all over them. I see Ware running wild this weekend and he could approach 150 total yards with a handful of receptions and one touchdown. If you have both Charles and Ware like a lot of people do, do not think twice about this. Ware is the starting running back in K.C. and will remain there the rest of the season as long as he is injury free.

NoHalftime SIT of the Week:

WR Allen Robinson (JAC)

Since the Jaguars bye week Robinson has five receptions for 58 yards and zero touchdowns in two games. Robinson is not that bad, and those numbers don’t reflect his ability. Things are just not clicking right now for Robinson and Blake Bortles. Robinson is 18th in targets for wide receivers, but only 48th in receptions. He current pace is on five targets off from last year, but he current point pace will leave him 112 points short of last year. That is a 7 point per game drop. I don’t think anyone was expecting 14 touchdowns this year so a point drop was expected, but not this drastic for sure.  I am still very hopeful Robinson turns things around, but until he does I don’t think you can count on him. I know bye weeks are tough and you might be forced to start Robinson, but if you have options you might want to sit him until he start producing again.

Quarterback

START Matthew Stafford (DET)

Over the last three weeks Stafford has been a very solid quarterback. He is averaging almost 240 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. The yardage is a little on the low side but with almost three touchdowns a game I will take it. This week he is up against a tough Texans defense, but I think Stafford will find a way to produce this weekend. Stafford has plenty of weapons and is not afraid to lean on any of them at anytime, which I think has lead to this nice little hot streak he is on. He is not locked on to any one particular receiver, he is taking what he is given, and the results speak for themselves. I would feel confident in riding the hot hand another week. I can see Stafford throwing for at least 240 yards and reaching the end zone two times this week.

Other STARTS:

SIT Philip Rivers (S.D.)

Rivers is have a fine season and he really has had only one poor game so far this year, and that game was week six against the Bronco’s, which we have talked about many time here. The Bronco’s are just one of the best teams at limiting quarterback production. As luck would have it Rivers is facing off against those same Bronco’s. This time the Bronco’s are home and probably licking their chops for a quick revenge game against the Chargers who just beat them two week ago. The Bronco’s have stifled every quarterback they have faced this season, only Cam Newton and Matt Ryan have scored double digits against them, and Cam was the only one to put up more than 14 points. The first time Rivers played the Bronco’s he put up 9.93 points and I don’t see him doing much better this time around. He will probably end up around 200 yards and one touchdown, and if you have to start him, just hope he has no turnovers.

Running Back

START Devontae Booker (DEN)

I hope you read my waiver wire article earlier this week where my top add for the week was Booker. He went from 30 percent ownership in Yahoo to 70 percent in the last 2 days. If you were lucky enough to land him congrats, if not check your available players list, there are still 30 percent of leagues not rostering him. I was more than happy to run with Booker in an RBBC role, but now that word is out that C.J. Anderson has an injury, apparently he avoided an ACL tear, but is still expected to miss some games and possibly the rest of the year, this really elevates Booker’s value. With his soft match up against the Chargers Booker just may be in line go get his first 100 yard game and his second or even his third career touchdowns.

Other STARTS:

SIT Mark Ingram (N.O.)

Every game but one has been a shoot out for the Saints this year, and shoot outs typically hurt power running backs like Ingram. Despite all the shoot outs Ingram has managed a couple of good games this year, but as has a couple of duds where he did not top 10 points even in PPR formats. This week the Seahawks are coming to town and its very possible this week is not a shoot out, but the Seahawks have one of the leagues best run defense, so either way things do not look good for Ingram this week. I think Ingram struggles to surpass 60 yards on the ground and is unlikely to find the end zone this week. I would look else where for a running back this week.

Other SITS:

Wide Receiver

START Stefon Diggs (MIN)

This one is probably my biggest reach of the week. Diggs has not had a good game since week two’s tilt against the Packers where he put up 182 yards on nine receptions with one touchdown. In his three games since his total slash line is 11/105/0, ouch! A match up against the Bears this week might be just what he needs to break out of his current slump. The Bears are one of the league’s worst versus opposing wide receivers. I think the Vikings know Diggs is the best receiver and they know they have to get him the ball. I think last weeks game against the Eagles has more to do with the Eagles defense than any problem with Diggs. I am not giving up on Diggs just yet, everyone that drafted him knew the Vikings were not a passing team and he would have down games, that said when the match ups are in your favor it’s time to use him and this week the match up is in his favor. I think Diggs hauls in at least five receptions for 90 yards and finds the end zone. Side note three of his five career touchdowns have come against the Bears.

Other STARTS:

SIT Alshon Jeffery(CHI)

There is good new and bad news when it comes to Jeffery this week. Good news is he gets his quarterback back in Jay Cutler. Cutler loves to lean on his number one receiver so with Cutler being back things are looking up for Jeffery. Now I did say there was bad news too. The bad news is he has a Monday night showdown with the Vikings. The Vikings have done a great job this year limiting opposing receivers and with a poor offensive line and a quarterback that has missed the last 5 weeks, things do not look promising for Jeffery in Cutlers return. I think we are looking at a four receptions for 60 yards at best on Monday night. If you have to start him this week, I hope you don’t need 10 plus points from him on Monday night, because trick or treaters won’t be the only thing scary on that night.

Other SITS:

Tight End

START Jimmy Graham (SEA)

Coming off a pretty serious knee injury Graham had a slow start to the season as the eased him back into action. In his last for games Graham is averaging almost six receptions for 89 yards a game. The only poor stat in his last four games is that he only has one touchdown. Despite only finding the end zone only one time he is still averaging almost 16 points a game in that stretch. This week he is visiting his old team the Saints and some would say this is a revenge game for him, and maybe it is, but regardless he is inline for a good game. He should easily reach six receptions for 100 plus yards and one trip to pay dirt.

Other STARTS:

SIT Charles Clay (BUF)

Clay has been pretty consistent this year. Unfortunately its been consistently poor. He has only cracked double digits in PPR formats twice and he has four games with 5 receptions. That means he is not getting in the end zone and he is not putting up yards either. This week he faces off against the Patriots who have a good defense, but not a great one. I expect more of the same from Clay. Four receptions for 30 yards and another game without a touchdown.

Other SITS:

Defense

START Tennessee Titans

The Jaguars are struggling this year and the Titans seem to be playing better each week. The Titans have 14 sacks in their last three weeks and the Jags are 25th in sacks allowed. Bortles has also been throwing his fair share of interceptions this season. The Titans up tempo high flying defense should generate problems for the Jags and create opportunities for sacks and interceptions. Continue to stream the Titans defense this week.

Other STARTS:

  • New York Jets
  • New England Patriots

SIT Buffalo Bills

The Patriots have a knack for bringing teams back to reality. This little high the Bills are riding will be ending big time this week. I know they lost last week but it will be nothing compared to this week as the Patriots have a history of stepping on Sexy Rexy’s neck. If you stream the Bills, stream someone else.

The Professor

I have been playing fantasy football since 1991. My first draft I had the first pick and the first player I ever drafted was Randall Cunningham. I remember that because he broke his leg in the first half of the season. Since then I have been hooked on fantasy football and I have not and will not ever draft a QB in the first round again.
