2016 Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire

There are still plenty of decent options in free agency to make your team better. Don’t get caught being complacent with your current roster. The best managers are always looking for ways to make their team better. Choose the wrong guy and your season is over, choose the right guy and you just might sneak into the playoffs.  So put the high waiver rank to good use this week and add some of these guys to make your team better. Top Waiver Wire Adds for Week 8

NoHalftime Waiver Add of the Week: RB Devontae Booker (DEN)

I have been waiting all year for this one. I drafted Booker in a couple of leagues, mostly dynasty to be honest. I have never been sold on C.J. Anderson as an every down back. I feel like last Monday night’s game is an indication of things to come in Denver. I know Anderson gained more yards than Booker, but Booker did get more touches and still had a good game himself. I think a balance of both backs will help both of them produce solid numbers from here on out. I know this is bad news for Anderson owners that were banking on RB1 numbers, but outside of week one he has yet to provide that. Now with them splitting touches they can each put up 12 – 16 points a game and those numbers make them both solid RB2 options. Booker is currently owned in one third of Yahoo leagues and with how slim running back options are in free agency I would not let Booker slip past you if you are in need of a quality running back you can count on. Go get Booker and enjoy at least the next three weeks of sweet match ups for the Bronco’s backfield.

QB Alex Smith (K.C.)

Smith has never been one to light up the fantasy football score board, but he is usually very consistent in his scoring. I very good QB2 and with bye weeks in full swing and some pretty soft match ups though those bye weeks, Smith is a great addition if you are looking for some quarterback help in the coming weeks. He is owned in almost 40 percent of Yahoo leagues, so chances are decent he is available, but he might already be rostered in your league. If he is available and you currently only have one quarterback I would grab him this week. Even if you have a guy like Cam Newton or Aaron Rodgers who already had their bye week, I would still find room for a back up QB and Smith would be a top choice to fill that spot.

WR Devante Adams (GB)

Adams has been on the waiver list couple of times this season, and now it is time for people to go get him. Owned in only 20 percent of Yahoo leagues there is a good chance you can still get him. Before last week he had not really been heavily targeted, but he was targeted in the end zone regularly, which is why he has been on the list before. He currently has five touchdowns in six games and last week was targeted 16 times and hauled in 13 of them for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Plus now that Green Bay is featuring a zero running back strategy, all of their receivers should see a bump in targets. The only downside I see to Adams is that Green Bay’s schedule is not very friendly the rest of the way out this season, but the more Green Bay is forced to throw the more Adams could be worth. Either way he is worth a roster spot on your team.

TE Jack Doyle (IND)

Whether Dwayne Allen comes back this week or not, I think Doyle has earned himself a share of the workload. In the last two weeks Doyle has had lines of 4/53/1 and 9/78/1 respectively.  Currently owned in the 30 percent of Yahoo leagues and sitting as the fourth best tight end in PPR leagues, I strongly recommend you find room for Doyle on your roster. With a banged up receiving corp and Allen fighting off a high ankle sprain, it is the perfect opportunity for Doyle to lock down the starting tight end job for the rest of the season. I don’t really think he stays in the top five the rest of the way, but he could remain a TE1 from here on out.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick (NYJ) – 19 percent owned – Reclaimed starting job, and has a soft schedule.
  • Brock Osweiler (HOU) – 14 percent owned – One of the softest fantasy playoff schedule hopefully he can turn it around.
  • Jay Cutler (CHI) – 5 percent owned – Hoyer is out and Cutler is suddenly healthy. Time a audition for a new team.
  • Corey Coleman (CLE) – 41 percent owned – Browns are desperate for offensive help as soon as he is healthy he will produce.
  • Brandon LaFell (CIN) – 12 percent owned – In his last three games he has 14/164/4. Not great but very productive for a flex.
  • Jamison Crowder (WAS) – 37 percent owned – Only one game this year not in double digits scoring.
  • Marqise Lee (JAC) – 2 percent owned – Lack of touchdowns is hurting him, but in PPR leagues he has scored double digits last two weeks.
  • Quincy Enunwa (NYJ) – 33 percent owned – Should see plenty of targets.
  • Russell Shepard (T.B.) – 0 percent owned – Worth a stash to see what he does in the coming weeks.
  • Matt Asiata (MIN) – 21 percent owned – With McKinnon in and out he is getting plenty of opportunity
  • Chris Thompson (WAS) – 12 percent owned – Matt Jones fumble issues have created a chance for Thompson.
  • C.J. Fiedorowicz (HOU) – 8 percent owned – Averaging almost five receptions for 57 yards and half a TD in last four.
  • Vernon Davis (WAS) – 23 percent owned – as long as Reed is out he is a strong start.

The Professor

I have been playing fantasy football since 1991. My first draft I had the first pick and the first player I ever drafted was Randall Cunningham. I remember that because he broke his leg in the first half of the season. Since then I have been hooked on fantasy football and I have not and will not ever draft a QB in the first round again.
