Week 5 of the Major League Baseball waiver wire for Fantasy Baseball. Each week we will feature players that should be monitored for possible additions to your fantasy baseball team.
2B/3B/SS Daniel Robertson TB
In 19 games Robertson has put up a ridiculous .507 on-base percentage. This, in turn, has given him more playing time then the Rays had perhaps intended on giving him. The Rays are one of the hotter teams of late winning 8 straight going into Sunday’s contest with the Red Sox. Robertson has been the number 5 hitter and Tampa would do well to keep him there, he has a .345 average to go along with 3 home runs and 8 runs batted in.
OF Kevin Pillar TOR
Pillar is notorious for being a streaky player. We have seen him go on a good hitting tear only to, later on, go on to some extending periods of minimal production. This year has been steady and productive. A robust 17 runs scored in 26 games, 13 runs batted in, 4 steals, and a .309 average makes him a very viable option for your outfield.
OF David Peralta ARI
Hitting at the top of the Diamondbacks batting order is only going to help run production and other counting stats, what is really to like about this year’s version of Peralta is the new-found power. 5 homers and a .0954 on-base plus slugging percentage has many thinking this could be a breakout year for the 30-year-old pro.
SS Jose Peraza CIN
If Peraza can hit around the .300 mark he will be worth rostering. So far so good, he sits at .284. What we need from Peraza are more stolen bases. Only three so far, but at season’s end,hard throwing he should be over the 20 mark. 21 steals in 2016 and 23 last year.
1B C.J. Cron TB
Our second Ray position player featured is putting up good power numbers to date. 6 home runs 17 RBI and a very respectable .271 average. Tampa seems to always be a sneaky team that can put together some wins and in turn runs out some decent players that fly under the radar and put up good seasons.
2B/OF Howie Kendrick WAS
The Nats are going through a rough period right now. Multiple injuries have paved the way for the veteran infielder/outfielder and he is performing at a pretty good clip. Just over .300 with 11 RBI and 4 homers in 24 games. Kendrick has always swung the bat well, he should continue to get regular playing time for the next while.
SP C.C. Sabathia NYY
The big lefty has re-invented himself into more of a crafty control artist the hard-throwing strikeout pitcher he was known to be at the start of his career. He won’t go deep into games or punch out a lot, but an ERA around 3-3.50 with a dozen wins isn’t out of the question.
P Kyle Barraclough MIA
Just one save as of this weekend, but there could be more to come. Fellow closer, Brad Zeigler isn’t 100 percent and Barraclough has shown to be more than adequate for the job. 2.31 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and a really good strikeout to walk ratio-21 to 7. This could be Barraclough’s job for the taking.
SP J.A. Happ TOR
Where in the world did this strikeout ability come from? 50 K’s in just 36 innings. He is locating his pitches almost perfectly every time out. He won’t overwhelm you with his stuff but he certainly has found the recipe for retiring batters this year. An ERA at 3.50 is also an encouraging sign.
