2018 Quarter of the Year Awards

Even though we are deep into week 5 now, I wanted to take a chance to look back at the first quarter of 2018 and address the MVP, biggest busts, best rookies, and a few other things. Some of these guys will be responsible for fast starts to your fantasy season and others will be responsible for a dreadful outlook on the rest of the season.

Most Valuable Player

As of the end of week four, I considered 3 players to be in the race for fantasy MVP. These guys were Patrick Mahomes, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas. The case for Patrick Mahomes is he was often a pick in the double-digit rounds and we all know the star he has become through 4 weeks as he was yet to throw an interception. Next, we have Alvin Kamara. Kamara through 4 weeks is the highest scoring player in PPR leagues. He was drafted right around 7th in startup drafts this fall and so far is outperforming that spot handily. The third option, Michael Thomas, is playing at a record-setting pace. He is the highest scoring receiver through 4 weeks catching 42 of 44 targets for 445 yards and 3 TDs.

Instead of just naming an MVP, I took to Twitter and ran a poll for results that didn’t show my bias. The poll collected 80 votes and here were the results:

Alvin Kamara-54%

Patrick Mahomes-39%

Michael Thomas-5%

With these results, Alvin Kamara is our quarter of 2018 fantasy football MVP.

All-Fantasy Team Through 4 Weeks

These guys are the best of the best so far for 2018 in terms of fantasy points scored at their respective positions. A lot of these don’t provide much of a surprise, but the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Jared Cook, and Darius Leonard have shined bright thus far in 2018.

QB Patrick Mahomes
RB Alvin Kamara
RB Todd Gurley
WR Michael Thomas
WR Adam Thielen
TE Jared Cook
Flex Melvin Gordon
D Bears
IDP Darius Leonard
K Justin Tucker

All-Bust Team Through 4 Weeks 2018

This team is built up by guys who haven’t lived up to their draft position. This team is led by holdout Le’Veon Bell. I considered a few other guys for the biggest bust since we have heard plenty on Bell, but truthfully 0 points so far in 2018 and not injury related he is the most worthy of this slot. Keenan Allen and OBJ find themselves on this list because they both have landed themselves outside the top 20 at WR and both were drafted by the end of round 2 pre-season.

All-Sleeper Team Through 4 Weeks

The all-sleeper team is made up of guys that flew under the radar and helped perform at a high level to help owners win some fantasy contests. Led by the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick and James Conner who likely won’t start all year, it is important to stay ahead of the curve with these guys so you can gain consistent fantasy value for 2018.

After a great first quarter of the 2018 fantasy season, I am very excited to see what is in store for the 2nd quarter and the rest of 2018.
