Bottom Line
Mac Jones is a pocket passer like Matt Ryan, and unfortunately does not possess that dual-threat quarterback status of rushing and passing like Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. Don’t let that discourage you from realizing Jones can be a top-tier QB in the league if he is put behind a stout, established offensive line and with a team that already has offensive weapons at his disposal as he had at Alabama. Jones threw for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and only four interceptions in 2020 proving that his game management and ball protection are on point.
His deep ball accuracy led his receivers to be able to have multiple yards after the catch and score. Though he throws beautiful deep balls, his arm strength lacks consistency throw after throw as he can on one play throw a perfect deep ball but fails to connect on 10-15 yard passes. If he was more mobile and made better plays when pressured, he would be a complete package. The best trait Jones has is his mental game.
This guy is smart, patient, and a sponge for learning. I do see Jones as a starter, but again it has to be the right fit that has dealt with pocket passers before like the Patriots, Saints, or even Colts.
