Betting on the NFL Draft

With the upcoming draft only a few days away, I am going to list some bets I have personally made and give a little thought behind each one. There are plenty of places to bet, so it is wise to shop the lines around to see where you can get the best odds.

Isaiah Simmons UNDER 6 1/2 + 120

I find it hard to believe that Simmons will make it past the Giants at pick five if he is even there then. I believe that there is a strong chance that if the Lions do not trade out of their pick at 3, they could go Simmons and not Jeffery Okudah. Okudah has been mocked to the lions more times than not but this is a fairly deep corner class and while Okudah is the best corner by far, I don’t think it’s far fetched for the Lions to wait and address this position later in the draft. The Lions need help everywhere on defense and Simmons can fill several holes along the Lions’ defense as he can line up at linebacker, edge rusher, cornerback and safety.

Jeffrey Okudah OVER 4 1/2 -110

We just talked about Okudah being the odds on favorite to be taken at three by the lions, so why is the over the favorite by Vegas here? I have seen this line go from even to -110 and as high as -140 on some sites. I was already of the belief that Okudah could slip due to the corner class being deep but after seeing the line continue to go up, I am fairly certain the over will hit here. I do not see Okudah going much farther however, as Carolina needs help at all levels of their defense and Okudah would fit well for many years.

Henry Ruggs FIRST WIDE RECEIVER DRAFTED +225

I know this may surprise some people and I am not expecting this to happen, however, it COULD happen. Ruggs ran a 4.27 40 at the combine which puts him tied for fourth all-time at wide receiver at the combine. NFL loves speed and Ruggs can definitely provide that. The jets just lost Robbie Anderson to Carolina in free agency so they will be looking to the draft to fill the need. While Jeudy and Lamb are the obvious choices here, it would not shock me if the Jets took him at 11. You could also bet the Jets +700 to take Ruggs here which would make sense, however, there is always a chance of a team trading up to jump the Jets. Either way, a small play here could pay off nicely.

Justin Herbert SECOND QB OFF THE BOARD +110

This one is pretty simple. I think teams are a little worried about Tua’s injury. If teams are not willing to trade up to take Tua they could be scared to use a top 5 pick on him. This leaves Herbert as a prime target for the Dolphins to stand pat at 5, keep all their picks and take Herbert. If this happens, we could see Tua fall to #9 to Jacksonville.

Jerry Jeudy UNDER 12 1/2 -180

Even if our prediction of Ruggs being the first wide receiver off the board is true, I see no way Jeudy makes it past the Raiders at pick 12. This one is a layup, don’t overthink it.
