Many factors can change between the time I write this article and the time lineups lock. I’ll do my best to update the article, so checking back frequently is encouraged. You can also ask questions on Twitter or Facebook. I’ll do my best to get to all of them!

Jameson Taillon/Jake Arrieta

Taillon will face the Phillies in Citizens Bank Park. He is the highest priced pitcher on the main slate, but is actually an underdog. Arrieta is currently the favorite in this game, and is priced $3,500 cheaper. Both pitcher have OTTs of 3.5. The issue in this game is, the Phillies strike out 25% of the time (8th highest rate), and the Pirates strike out 17.7% of the time (3rd lowest rate). If you go with Arrieta, you get the savings, but won’t get many strikeouts. If you play Taillon, you’ll get some strikeouts, but will have to save with your bats. I’m tempted to play Taillon in cash games, but his price gives me pause. Arrieta is a solid SP2 for cash games, but lacks the upside for tournaments. Both pitcher intrigue me in different ways, and tomorrow’s lineups, weather, and umpires will determine my exposure.

Eduardo Rodriguez

Much like Arrieta, Rodriguez has a tough matchup against a team that doesn’t strike out often. The Angels have the second lowest strikeout rate in the league, which limits Rodriguez’s upside. I love the price for Rodriguez, but not the matchup. With no pitching options jumping off the page for the main slate, looking into lineups and other factors close to lock will determine the best options on the slate.

Luke Weaver

Weaver is my favorite pitcher on the early slate. He’ll face the Cubs who can score some runs, but also have a few strikeouts in their lineup. Before the game was postponed on Wednesday, Weaver projected for around 17 DK points. Assuming the Cubs have a similar lineup, I like Weaver as a solid SP2.
