Pitchers

Justin Verlander

Verlander will face the Mariners in Minute Maid Park. He’s a moderate favorite and has an OTT of three (see pitcher chart). With the highest strikeout rate on the slate, Verlander also has the highest ceiling. He costs $12,400, and is the top overall option on the main slate. While not overpriced, his price tag may put him as a tournament play on the all-day slate due to the other pitching values.

Corey Kluber

On the all-day slate, Kluber is only $10,900 against a depleted Twins offense. Even against Jose Berrios, Kluber is a the second largest favorite on the slate. He has an OTT of three and has one of the highest floors on the slate. I expected Kluber and Verlander to be priced similarly, but I’ll gladly take the $1,500 discount on Kluber in cash games.

Junior Guerra

Guerra will face the Padres in Miller Park. He’s a big favorite with an OTT of 3.5. Guerra rarely goes deep into games, but it’s a good matchup and he did throw eight innings his last time out. The Padres have the second highest strikeout rate in the league and have a bottom three wRC+. At $7,300, he’s slightly overpriced, but I like the safety for cash games. He’s recorded at least 15 DK points in eight of his last ten games.

Gio Gonzalez

I don’t see a lot of positives for Gonzalez against the Braves, but he’s really cheap. If you don’t like Guerra, Gonzalez will give you a $1,100 discount and allow you to fit a few extra bats.

Hitters

Giancarlo Stanton/Yankees

Stanton had been cold, but he’s hit a home run in each of the past two games. The Yankees will face Ariel Jurado in Yankee Stadium. Jurado has limited home runs in his first few starts, but it’s mostly due to a low HR/FB ratio. Jurado struggles to strike batters out, making it a perfect day to play Stanton. Stanton has a top three home run projection today. Greg Bird is interesting as a first base option. He’s underpriced and has the highest home run projection among batters under $4,000. I currently have both Bird and Stanton in my cash game lineup. A full Yankees stack is one of the highest upside options today.

Red Sox Bats

The Red Sox will face Ryan Borucki in the Rogers Centre. Borucki has yet to allow a home run this season, but I expect that streak to come to an end today. I have interest in five Red Sox bats for cash games at the moment. J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts are the obvious top options, and a $4,300 price tag on Steve Pearce makes him interesting as well. If Eduardo Nunez is batting in the top six, I’ll have interest in him too, but may look a different direction if he hits from the seventh spot. The Red Sox are my preferred tournament stack today due to the obvious bats you should include in the stack.

Coors Bats

The Dodgers and Rockies will face off in Coors Field today. This is a unique situation where I like both sides of this game, but slightly prefer the Yankees and Red Sox bats. I’ll have Coors bats sprinkles into my cash game and tournament lineups, but unless we get word that ownership will be low, I might avoid each Coors team as a stack. Ross Stripling has a SIERA under three this season, making it difficult for me to get excited about the Rockies bats, even in Coors Field. I’m still considering Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado, but might prefer the next pair. Manny Machado and Justin Turner will both own the platoon advantage against Tyler Anderson. In cash games, I’ll side with the Dodgers side of this 2v2 because I prefer the matchup. Both pairs project within a single point of each other, making it basically a coin flip.
