Top Plays
Madison Bumgarner
Bumgarner will face the Rockies at home in pitcher friendly AT&T Park. The Rockies struggled on the road last season, and Bumgarner will have the platoon advantage over some of the Rockies top hitters. Bumgarner is the biggest favorite on the main slate, and the Rockies project for the fewest runs on the slate. I’ll be locking Bumgarner into my cash game lineups.
Khris Davis
Davis is facing Jason Vargas and will hold the platoon advantage. Davis has the highest home run projection on the slate and is inexpensive at only $4,100 on DraftKings. Davis will be the first hitter in my lineups on Thursday.
Billy Hamilton
If Hamilton leads off, all he needs to do is get on base. Jimmy Nelson has allowed 63 stolen bases since 2013. If Hamilton can just get on base, he’ll likely be able to steal once or twice against Nelson. He’s priced up a bit, and I would have a hard time paying for him against most other pitchers, but this situation sets up really well for Hamilton.
Eric Thames
Thames will face off against 40-year-old Bronson Arroyo in hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark. Arroyo has a low career strikeout percentage (15.2%) and a high HR/9 (1.24). Thames is close to Khris Davis’s home run projection, and if he’s batting second, I’ll be locking him into my lineups as well.
Yoenis Cespedes
Cespedes is another player who comes in with a high home run projection. He’ll face lefty Wei-Yin Chen who had a HR/9 of 1.61 last season. It will be difficult to decide which of these four outfielders will not be in my lineup tonight.
Notes
The Brewers and Reds are my two favorite stacks.
There aren’t any great pitching options behind Bumgarner on the late slate, so I may just attempt to go cheap with Luis Severino.
