MLB DFS Pitcher Chart & Lineup Advice – 7/27/2017

Top Plays
Max Scherzer
If you’re playing the early slate on Thursday, there is not reason not to roster Scherzer. I’m disappointed he isn’t on the main slate, but when this happens, I try to play my cash games on the all day slate. Scherzer faces the Brewers who strike out at the second highest rate against righties. The Brewers wRC+ is now only 17th in the league against righties, and Scherzer should have the lowest OTT on the slate. I’m locking Scherzer into both my cash game and tournament lineups.
Jon Lester
If you’re playing the main slate, Lester is a solid option. He’ll face the White Sox in Guaranteed Rate Field so he’ll deal with a DH, but the White Sox aren’t a great offense and offer some strikeout upside. Lester has the lowest OTT of the main slate and is the largest favorite as well. The Cubs have a team run total of 6.5 runs, so Lester has a fantastic shot at the win.
Luke Weaver
Let me start by saying, I’m not sure what Luke Weaver’s pitch count will be on Thursday. His pitch count has been all over the place in the minors this season. In his last four games, he’s thrown 75, 91, 74, and 83 pitches. If the Cardinals will let him throw 90 pitches, he’s my favorite tournament play and may make my cash game roster. Weaver will face the Diamondbacks who are solid against righties, but take a huge park hit and strike out 23% of the time, seventh highest in the league. Weaver only costs $6,400 on DraftKings, allowing you to pay up for quite a few bats.
Cubs Bats
The Cubs will face Mike Pelfrey in Guaranteed Rate Field. They have a team run total of 6.5! I want to fit as many Cubs into my lineups as possible, but their prices make this difficult in cash games. Anthony Rizzo is the top play in cash games and the top bat on the Cubs. For the price, Kyle Schwarber is my next favorite option at just $3,700 on DraftKings. I’ll be forcing Kris Bryant into my tournament lineups, but he’s not currently on my cash game team due to his high price.
Giancarlo Stanton/Marcel Ozuna
Stanton and Ozuna are locks in my cash game lineups today. They’ll face Robert Stephenson and his 2.70 HR/9. While this number is due to regress, Stephenson still should give up a high home run rate throughout the season. Stanton has a highest home run projection on the slate and the Marlins have the second highest team run total on the slate behind the Cubs. Ozuna’s price is just too good to pass up. He should hit clean up and will be in a prime position to drive in runs. He has a top three RBI projection on the slate behind only Rizzo and Stanton. The Marlins are my second favorite stack of the night, and make a nice alternative to a Cubs stack in tournaments.
Notes
If Luke Weaver’s pitch count is too risky to use him in cash games, I’ll be looking at Chris O’Grady as my SP2.
