DFS MLB FanDuel Cash Lineup Advice 05/23/2017

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the MLB Fanduel Cash Game Article. Tonight he have an excellent 15 game slate. As always, please make sure you check the weather and the team lineups as they are released. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite cash game options for tonight on FanDuel.

Pitcher

Clayton Kershaw LAD: $12,600 vs. STL
Whenever Clayton Kershaw is on the slate, he automatically needs to be in consideration for your cash game lineup. Chris Sale might be having a better  season so far, but Kershaw has consistently been the best pitcher in all of baseball for a few years now. Tonight he has a solid matchup against the Cardinals, who rank 23rd in wRC+ and 10th in K% against left-handed pitchers.

Jon Lester CHC $10,300 vs. SF
If you do not pay up for Clayton Kershaw, Jon Lester is probably the next best option for cash games tonight. For the first time in the past few games, the wind is not howling straight out at Wrigley Field. Also, the Giants have not been that great on offense this season ranking 25th in wRC+ against left-handed pitchers this season. Just to be sure to keep an eye on the weather here since there is a chance there could be some rain in Chicago tonight.

Catcher

Chris Herrmann ARI: $2,400/Jeff Mathis ARI $2,300  vs. CHW
If you’re going to use Kershaw tonight, you will need to find multiple value options. One of those really cheap options tonight could be Chris Herrmann, Herrmann has been excellent against right-handed pitchers this season with a 0.376 wOBA and a 0.292 ISO in 55 plate appearances. Dylan Covey on the other hand is one of the worst pitchers on this slate and I fully expect the Diamondbacks to put up a ton of runs against him in the hitter friendly Chase Field. Just make sure Herrmann is in the lineup tonight since he was not last night. If he is not in the lineup, you can always use the late swap feature on FanDuel and pivot over to the other Diamondbacks’ backstop. Jeff Mathis. To be honest, these are the only two catcher options I am looking at tonight since FanDuel has done a pretty good job with pricing catchers appropriately tonight.

First Base
Carlos Santana CLE: $3,500 @ CIN
If you can fit a mid-priced first baseman into your lineup, consider using Carlos Santana tonight. Santana is currently doing better from the left side of the plate than the right side this season, but he has been a better hitter from the right side over the course of his career with a 0.356 wOBA and a 121 wRC+. Amir Garrett has had some solid starts this season, but he hasn’t been great by any means allowing a 0.335 wOBA and a 38.6% hard contact rate against right-handed hitters this season.

Matt Adams ATL: $2,200 vs. PIT
If you’re going to cheap route at first base, I recommend punting with Matt Adams at only $2,200. I’m not quite sure why the Cardinals did not give Matt Adams more of a chance to become an everyday player for them. In the one season where he had over 500 plate appearances, he posted a 116 wRC+. Also, Adams has been solid against right-handed pitchers over his career with a 0.349 wOBA and a 0.191 ISO. Tonight he has an excellent matchup against Tyler Glasnow, who has really struggled against left-handed hitters this season allowing a 0.421 wOBA, 7.36 BB/9 and a 1.84 HR/9.

Second Base

Brandon Phillips ATL: $2,500 vs. PIT
Another cheap Braves’ bat we can use to attack Glasnow is Brandon Phillips. Phillips has been solid  this season for the Braves and typically hits second in the order. I already mentioned how Glasnow has struggled with left-handed bats this season and he hasn’t been much better against righties allowing a 0.381 wOBA.

Brandon Drury ARI: $2,600 vs. CHW
Second base is a great spot for value tonight, so another cheap option that I recommend here is Brandon Drury. Drury has been slumping lately, but he still has pretty good numbers against right-handed pitchers with a 0.391 wOBA and a 0.204 ISO. The Diamondbacks sat Drury last night. If they sit them again tonight you can pivot to Phillips at $100 less or even Daniel Descalso if the D-Backs lineup comes out after the Braves start playing.

Third Base

Jose Ramirez CLE: $2,900 @ CIN
Jose Ramirez has not been great by any means against left-handed pitchers, but he still makes for a solid cash game option at this price. I like using switch-hitters who hit in the middle of the order for my cash game lineups since they aren’t likely to be pinch-hit for late in the game. Also, Ramirez does not strike out much which is another great quality when selecting hitters for your cash game lineup.

Jake Lamb ARI: $4,100 vs. CHW
It’s going to be difficult to fit Jake Lamb into your cash game lineup tonight if you use Kershaw, but if you use Lester you probably should pay up for Lamb. Lamb is having an outstanding season so far with a 0.458 wOBA and a 0.342 ISO against right-handed pitchers. I already mentioned how lousy Covey is so lock and load Lamb if you can afford to do so.

Shortstop

Francisco Lindor CLE: $3,600 @ CIN
A third Indians’ switch-hitter who you can use tonight against Garrett is Francisco Lindor. Lindor has been excellent this season against left-handed pitchers with a 0.368 wOBA, 0.180 ISO and a 39.2% hard contact rate.

Elvis Andrus TEX: $2,800 @ BOS

Elvis Andrus has really improved offensively this season and has solidified his spot in the two-hole for the Rangers. Rick Porcello has been too great after winning the American League Cy Young award last season. Porcello has allowed a 0.361 wOBA and a 42.2% hard contact rate against opposing right-handed hitters this season.

Outfielders

David Peralta ARI: $3,300/ Gregor Blanco ARI $2,400  vs. CHW
Another pair of D-Backs’ hitters who we can use tonight are David Peralta and Gregor Blanco. FanDuel has been pretty slow in raising Peralta’s salary considering he has a 0.387 wOBA, 0.175 ISO and is hitting directly in front of Paul Goldschmidt against right-handed pitchers. Blanco is a great salary saver since he has been hitting leadoff for the D-Backs against righties while A.J. Pollock is on the DL with a groin injury.

Andrew Benintendi BOS: $3,600 vs. TEX
A solid mid-priced outfielder for tonight’s slate is Andrew Benintendi. Benintendi has been excellent this season against right-handed pitchers with a 0.346 wOBA while hitting in the middle of the order for the Red Sox. In each of Andrew Cashner’s last few starts I have tried picking on him, but he keeps having solid outings. I’m still not buying into his 2.45 ERA considering his FIP and xFIP are both over 5.00. If nothing else, I guess it’s best not to stack against Cashner right now, but we can certainly use some one-offs against him in our cash game lineup.

Josh Reddick: $3,300 HOU: $3,300 vs. DET
Another excellent  mid-priced outfielder who we can use tonight is Josh Reddick, who currently has a 0.355 wOBA and a 0.210 ISO against right-handed pitchers. Jordan Zimmermann has been atrocious this season, allowing a 0.396 wOBA and a 49.3% hard contact rate against left-handed hitters.
