DFS NASCAR DraftKings Lineup Advice: Watkins Glen Picks 8/6/17

In last week’s race at Pocono Raceway, Kyle Busch finally got his win. Like in many of his races, Busch had the dominant car, but this time, luck was on his side and he locked in a much-deserved trip to victory lane and automatic playoff qualification.    The Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen, NY to compete in the “I Love NY 355” race.

Watkins Glen Raceway is the 2nd road course on the Monster Energy Cup series circuit.   The I Love NY 355 race will contain 90 laps.  With only 3 more races until the playoffs, each race becomes more critical for those drivers who are fighting for those last few playoff spots.

My Top 5 Drivers for the I Love NY 355

Kyle Busch($10,300):   It was only a matter of time that Kyle Busch would get his win and make the playoffs.  Now, with the monkey off his back, he can relax and take some chances which is bad news for the rest of the field.   Joe Gibbs Racing has been giving Busch great cars all year, and expect Busch to continue the momentum.    In ten out of twelve of his races at the Glen, Busch has finished in the Top 10.   He has won here twice, his last in 2013.

Brad Keselowski($9,800):  Keselowski is a savvy driver who performs well at almost any track.   Even with a mediocre car last week, he still managed to finish 5th overall.   At the Glen, Keselowski has finished in the Top 10 in five out of his seven races.  Keselowski did his best Buffalo Bills impersonation by finishing in 2nd place during the consecutive years of 2011, 2012, and 2013.   Last year, he took 3rd place at the Glen.

AJ Allmendinger($8,800):   Allmendinger is an aggressive road course specialist and I expect him to excel at the Glen like he does at Sonoma.   Allmendinger has the highest average finish at the Glen among active NASCAR drivers, where he finished 4th last year and sailed into victory lane in 2014.   He could be highly owned, but he could also easily be in the Top 3.

Martin Truex Jr($10,500):  Truex has been dominant all year-long.  Even in races where he has finished due to car troubles or crashed(like at Indianapolis and Sonoma), he was in front most of the time, leading laps before ending his day early.    This is a momentum pick and Truex will finish in the Top 10.   While never winning at the Glen, he still has six Top 10 finishes.

Kurt Busch($9,600):   Kurt Busch is a decent and consistent short track and road course driver.   He has had an up and down year, but it does not matter because of his early Daytona 500 win that locked him in the playoffs.   At the Glen, he has finished in the Top 10 in three out of his last four races.   Look for this savvy veteran to get another Top 10 finish this week.

Value Picks

Joey Logano($8,600):   Logano has had a mediocre year after starting out strong.  He has yet to qualify for the playoffs and is getting desperate to get in.   This is one race track that his team could deliver as Logano runs strong at the Glen.    Logano has finished in the Top 10 in his past four races at the Glen, finishing 2nd last year and winning it in 2015.

Dale Earnhardt Jr($8,000):   Is this the week where Dale Jr can break out of his slump?   For such a storied and popular driver, he is having the worst luck this year.   For GPPs, he is worth a shot as he will be lowly owned due to his poor performance.   In his last two races at the Glen, he has finished a respectable 11th in both of them.

Sleeper Pick

Danica Patrick($5,900):   Patrick’s background as an Indy car driver has served her well at the road courses at Sonoma and the Glen.  While not having great finishing results, she is very confident running these tracks.    In last year’s race, even though she finished 21st, she still led 11 out of the 90 laps.     She has the potential to finish in the Top 10, and for the price of $5,900, you can easily fit her in as your lowest salaried driver.
