DFS NBA FanDuel Starting 5 Lineup Advice 2/13/18

DFS NBA FanDuel Starting 5 Lineup Advice 2/13/18

I had another good night in S5, hopefully, everyone else did too. Most if my calls from yesterday’s article panned out with a few misses. My lineup with Steph Curry, Lou Williams, T.J. Warren, Joe Ingles and Pau Gasol put up a nice 193.8 and cashed across the board. Originally, I had Austin Rivers and Enes Kanter over Lou Will and Gasol, but when Milo Teodosic was cleared to play I came off Rivers. Enough about yesterday, let’s look at today…

We have another six-game slate today with a few nice games to target. Not all of the Vegas lines are out yet, but of the ones that have been posted, Houston/Minnesota looks like a good game to target with a 222 over/under and only a 2.5 point spread. Obviously, this will be an expensive game to have exposure to, so we will have to find some good value.

One last thing before we jump into to today’s slate, make sure you download the GoingFor2 App to make sure you never miss an S5 article again. I also put out a “near” daily NBA spreadsheet for the classic contests which you can view here, and we will be covering MLB and Nascar once their season’s kick-off. You can download it here. Now on to today’s slate…

NBA DFS Legend

Nothing But NetMy top plays of the night at his position.
DunkA Dunk is a second or third tier player with the highest upside.
Half-Court ShotOtherwise known as a “punt play.” A Low-priced, high-upside player.
Blocked Shot A player I’ll be avoiding. Otherwise known as “Fading.”

Guards

Nothing But Net | James Harden $16,000 @ MIN

NBA FanDuel Starting 5 Lineup 2/13/18

With Russell Westbrook a GTD, it’s hard not to have Harden as the top guard on today’s slate. With that said, I don’t know how hard he will be to fit into a lineup without completely punting a position, which you know I hate to do in S5.

Harden has only played one game against the Timberwolves this season in which Jimmy Butler has played, and it was his first game back from injury when his minutes were still limited so I couldn’t use that as a reference point. I did, however, go back to last year and see how he did against Chicago when Butler was there, and he was half an assist shy of averaging a triple-double in two games last season. It’s not exactly apples-to-apples because Harden was running the point last season, but needless to say, if I can fit him on my roster today I won’t be scared of Butler.

Dunk | De’Aaron Fox $11,500 @ DAL

There isn’t a lot of mid-range guards that I like on this slate, but I think Fox is in a good spot here against a Mavs team giving up 46.4 FanDuel points to PGs on the season. Fox has two straight 30-plus FanDuel point games and has scored double-digit NBA points in seven of his last eight games — the one game he didn’t get double-digits he only played 16 minutes after suffering an injury in the third quarter.

Half-Court Shot | Raymond Felton** $10,000 vs CLE

I put asterisks next to his name because this pick will depend on the status of Russell Westbrook. Assuming Westbrook misses another game, Felton becomes an elite value option as the Cavs are dead last in points allowed to PGs over the last four weeks and second to last on the season.

Blocked Shot | Goran Dragic $12,500 @ TOR

Dragic has a bad matchup with Kyle Lowry, a good defender. If you look at Dragic’s previous game against the Raptors you may be tempted to play him as he put up 49 FanDuel points, however, Lowry did not play that game leaving either Fred VanVleet or Delon Wright guarding him.

Honorable Mentions: Andrew Wiggins $11,500, Jordan Clarkson $11,000

Forwards

NBA FanDuel Starting 5 Lineup 2/13/18

Nothing But Net | Jimmy Butler/Paul George $15,000 vs CLE/vs HOU

I could not decide between these two, so I went with both. If Westbrook plays, Butler gets a leg up over PG13, but they both are $15,000, both have great matchups, both have been playing amazing lately and they are both at home. Close your eyes and pick one, you can’t go wrong either way.

Dunk | Dwight Powell $12,000 vs SAC

Powell has averaged over 31 Fanduel points and logged just under 30 minutes per game over his last five. He is coming off one of his best game in which he put up a double-double (18p 12r) and had a blocked shot. Tonight he get a matchup with the Kings who give up 46.47 FanDuel points per game to power forwards and are dead last in rebounds allowed to the position. Powell should be able to flirt with another triple-double tonight.

Half-Court Shot | Larry Nance Jr. $9,000 @ DEN

This is more of a gut call than an actual stats call. I think Nance Jr.’s athletism will be needed in this game and he should log more minutes than the 20 he did in his Cavs debut. If he can log between 25-to-30 minutes, he will be able to produce enough to more than just paying 9k for him.

Blocked Shot | Harrison Barnes $12,500 vs SAC

The gap between Barnes’ floor and his ceiling is probably the smallest gap in the league. His floor is right at 22-to-24 FanDuel points and his ceiling is 30-to-35. The Kings and Mavs are ranked No. 26 and No. 27 in pace this season, in other words, there won’t be enough possessions for Barnes to reach his ceiling.

Honorable Mentions: LeBron James $16,000

Centers

NBA FanDuel Starting 5 Lineup 2/13/18

Nothing But Net | Clint Capela $13,500 @ MIN

Capela has scored 40 or more FanDuel points in five of his last seven games and while the Timberwolves are middle of the pack in terms of FanDuel points allowed to centers, they bottom 10 in NBA points allowed to centers. I was given a stat by one of my DFS aficionados, Gerson, that the Rockets are 25-and-1 when Chris Paul, James Harden and Clint Capela are all healthy, however, they have a winning record when just Chris Paul is out, they have a winning record when just James Harden is out, but have a losing record when Capela is out. He opens up everything for all the shooters the Rockets have and he will eat tonight against Karl-Anthony Towns.

Dunk | Steven Adams $12,500 vs CLE

The Cavalier made a lot of trades a week ago, but they didn’t get better defensively on the interior nor did they get better at rebounding. Adams is a bulldog on the inside and he will abuse whoever the Cavs try to put on him. I see a double-double for him tonight in what should be a close game.

Half-Court Shot | Dewayne Dedmon $11,000 @ MIL

After last night’s 50-burger by Pau Gasol, I was tempted to put him here instead of Dedmon, but I think that Gasol may get a rest day on the second game of a back-to-back even with LaMarcus Aldridge out. If Gasol is confirmed the starter, I will roster him over Dedmon, but the Atlanta big man is still a viable value option against the smallish frontcourt of the Bucks.

Dedmon’s biggest detractor is his inconsistent minutes, but after his performance against Detriot, he should see close to 30 minutes again tonight.

Blocked Shot | Hassan Whiteside $13,000 @ TOR

This is just my personal hate for Whiteside. I can never get him right, which means if I’m fading him you should probably play him. I passed on him when he put up 45 FanDuel points on Dallas, and the next game I used him in a good matchup with the Cavs and he put up 19 Fanduel points. Play at your own risk.

Honorable Mentions: Karl-Anthony Towns $14,500
