DFS WNBA FanDuel Lineup Advice 5/31/17

I apologize for not being able to post anything over the last few days, between my day job, cookouts, and the family, I just didn’t have the time to put “pen to paper” so to speak. I’m working on a WNBA spreadsheet that I hope to have done soon, just trying to work out the logistics of it all. Another two-game slate today, so it will be difficult to write a full blown advice column, but there is a trend I’ve noticed over the last few nights, and I’ve started using it to my advantage and that is the winning lineups almost always have at least one complete punt if not two.

For example, last night’s $4 GPP winner had both Shavonte Zellous at $3,000 and Kayla Thorton at $3,200. Now that we have a larger sample size of the WNBA, I can see that it is a very top-heavy sport, and getting as many of those top players is more important than maybe any other DFS sport. With that said, tonight’s slate doesn’t have as many good “punts” as some of the other nights, but I will do my best to find one or two. Here are tonight’s values…

Guards

Natasha Cloud (WAS) vs CON $3,400

She is the closest thing I could find to a viable minimum salaried player that would allow you to pay up for the big names. She is averaging right around 20 minutes and 12.5 FanDuel points per game, and her opponent, the Connecticut Sun, give up about 81 points per game, fourth most in the league.

Kristi Toliver (WAS) vs CON $4,100

WNBA FanDuel Lineup 5/31/17There is going to be a Washington/Connecticut theme of this column tonight as it seems all the value will come from this game. The biggest draw for Toliver is her minutes per game. She has played over 30 minutes in each of her last two games, and while she doesn’t have much to show for it, scoring 16.5 and 18.7 respectively, she is cheap enough that those scores won’t hurt your lineup. Sometimes in DFS its quantity over quality. I’ll take a player getting 30-plus minutes averaging less than one point per minutes over a player getting 15 minutes but averaging more points per minute.

Jasmine Thomas (CON) @ WAS $4,500

Thomas is right on my “value” cutoff at $4,500 and honestly, she should be cheaper. I don’t “love” this play, but as a GPP contrarian play, it might work out. She has only logged 23 and 21 minutes over her last two games and her production has been very up and down. The Mystics have the fourth-worst defensive rating this season, so she has that in her favor too.

Forwards

Tianna Hawkins (WAS) vs CON $3,400

WNBA FanDuel Lineup 5/31/17The onslaught of Mystics continues. Hawkins has put together two back-to-back good games, one of which fellow forward teammate Emma Meesseman was out for (overseas) and the other in which Meesseman was limited to only 16 minutes. If Hawkins can once again step up with Meesseman overseas until the end of June, her $3,400 price tag becomes very appealing.

Lynetta Kizer (CON) @ WAS $4.100

Kizer has been a popular value play for me for the entirety of the season, but her price is starting to climb and she may soon not be as attractive as she once was. At $4,100 she is still a viable play on this slate, and her last game of 26 minutes, 16 WNBA points and seven rebounds should result in more court time.

Kayla Alexander (SA) @ ATL $3,000

The true minimum salary player with upside on this slate, Alexander could be the player in the “winning” lineup tonight. She logged 26 minutes in her last game, by far her season high, and had 23.5 FanDuel points to show for it. I’m not sure if foul trouble had anything to do with her explosion in minutes, but her production in those minutes should warrant some more time on the floor.
