Friday presents us with an almost full slate of WNBA action.  All the big names will be playing such as Sylvia Fowles and Brittney Griner, so finding value or alternative GPP options will be key.

Guards

Skylar Diggins- Smith (DAL) @ WAS $7,300

With the forward possession being absolutely loaded tonight I am not sure I want to be paying up at guard necessarily.  If you do decide to pay up at guard Skylar Diggins-Smith should be at the top of your list due to her matchup against the Mystics who rank at the bottom of the league against opposing guards.  In the two games this year against WAS, Diggins has posted 36.4 and 35.3 FD pts and last year in their one game against each other Diggins posted 37.4 FD pts.  Combine this with the fact that Diggins averages 33.2 MPG, has a 23.4% usage rating and her ceiling matches upper tier forwards, she should be considered for Cash and GPP.

Jasmine Thomas (CON) @ NY $5,900

Jasmine has been playing some great ball as of late, averaging 28.6 FD pts in 32 MPG over the last five games.  In her last game against NY, she posted 14 Pts, 2 Reb, 8 Ast, 1 Blk, 1 stl in 33 minutes for 31.4 FD pts.  The offense runs through Jasmine with her 22% usage rating and career high 12 FGA per game.  Look for Jasmine as nice cash option with a decent ceiling.

CHI @ ATL

If Jasmine Thomas is not your gal look at the CHI @ ATL games for Layshia Clarendon (3rd overall in Assists) ATL and Tamera Young (13.7 PPG) CHI $5,500 who both have nice ceilings.  Allie Quigley CHI $5,300 has seen a huge bump in playing time averaging 37 minutes and 26.2 FD pts in her last three games.  As a GPP play Cappie Pondexter at $5,600 is way too cheap.  She has been struggling as of late but still averaging 35 MPG and is 2nd in the league in assists per game and is averaging 39.1 FD pts against ATL this year.

Monique Currie (SAN) vs DAL $3,600

For your low-cost guard, I think it would be wise to avoid bare minimum players and target someone like Currie who provides extreme value.  Currie’s salary has peaked at $6,700 this season, but currently it is at a rock bottom price of $3,600.  In her first meeting against DAL she played 23 minutes and generated 25.6 FD pts, but where things get interesting was he last game which also against DAL where she started and played 32 minutes for 36 FD pts.  I don’t think we can bank of Currie scoring 29 pts like she did last game, but at $3,600 she doesn’t have to in order to exceed value.

Forwards

Tina Charles NY vs (CON) $8,000

If you plan on fading Sylvia Fowles and/or Britney Griner there are many lower cost alternatives.  Now fading the big two will take a lot of guts but there is some merit in going with someone like Charles who is $1,000 cheaper compared to Fowles or BG.  Last game against CON Charles put up a bit of a dud but, last year Charles averaged the equivalent of 38.2 FD pts per game against the Mystic.  If you look at the advanced stats Charles is very similar to BG since Charles averages 33.5 mpg (BG 32.5), Charles has a 104 offensive rating (BG 104.4), Charles has a 15% reb percentage (BG 15.5%), and Charles has a 28.7% usage rating (BG 28.4%).  With a high floor and ultra high ceiling, Tina should be your pivot off the big two.

Jonquel Jones (CON) @ NY $7,900

Many WNBA DFS players will be asking themselves if they should go Sylvia Fowles or Britney Griner at their massive $9,000 salaries, which will lead many people overlooking Ms. Jones who was named the Eastern Conference player of the week.  Jones leads the WNBA in rebounds with 12.2 per game by a pretty healthy margin (Fowles 9.8 RPG) and she averages 15 pts and 1.5 blks per game.  Simply, she is a Fowles lite but $1,100 less.  Her last game against NY she put up 39.9 FD pts and at her current $7,900 salary she has met or exceeded 5X five times this season.  Really her only duds came against Minnesota.  If Lynetta Kizer and Morgan Tuck remain out for the Sun Jones should be considered a lock.

Alyssa Thomas (CON) @ NY $6,600

As I mentioned for Jones, if Lynetta Kizer and Morgan Tuck remain out, the Suns will be very limited at the forward spot and Thomas should also see an increased workload yet again.  Without both forwards present Thomas has averaged 31.5 minutes, 18.5 pts, 4.75 reb, 5.25 ast, 1.5 blk, and 2 stl for 37.3 FD pts over the last four games.  If both forwards remain out Thomas should be considered a core player for your lineups since she recently put up 35.7 FD pts against NY, but if one or both of the CON forwards returns consider Thomas for GPP only.

Jessica Breland (CHI) @ ATL $4,900

JB is a very boom or bust player since she has 5X in five of her eleven games but put up duds in the other six.  Jessica’s low floor but high ceiling makes her an intriguing GPP option.  In her two games ATL this year she put up 17.4 FD pts and 28.4 FD pts.  If Breland is able to avoid foul trouble and keep her turnovers to a minimum she could be in for a nice night.
