Fanduel/DraftKings MLB Lineup Advice 4/17/16

Daaaaaaamn Brendan! Back at it again with another GoingFor2 weekend DFS picks post, I hope you all have had a successful week trying to figure out your MLB DFS strategy. It’s always a little hard to gauge matchups/teams to exploit early on, but things should start settling down here in a couple weeks and we can really identify how to build an optimal Fanduel or DraftKings MLB lineup. Let’s get into who I like for Sunday’s loaded 1:05pm main slate!

Pitchers

Gio Gonzalez – WAS (FD – $8900, DK – $9000)

There aren’t a lot of clear cut “chalk” pitchers for tomorrow which should make the hunt for some safe value fun and interesting. One of my favorite upper-tier options is obviously Gio Gonzalez matched up with the Phillies in pitcher-friendly Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia is certainly in rebuild mode, and they don’t have many threatening bats in their lineup at the moment. Gio’s win potential and strikeout potential are strong Sunday against a week Phillies team, so plug him into your cash lineups with no hesitation.

Steven Matz – NYM (FD – $7700, DK – $7100)

Matz had a forgettable outing last time giving up seven earned runs in a loss to the Miami Marlins, but I think he’s due for a bounceback performance Sunday against the Indians. He’s good value on both sites (moreso DraftKings) and rostering him will allow you to fit in some more potent bats in your lineup. Cleveland doesn’t hit the long ball very well, and they’re still without star outfielder Michael Brantley for the near future so any pitcher hurling against them is fair game for the time being. While Matz’s win potential isn’t great (he’s facing off against the electric Corey Kluber), I think the matchup and K-upside is enough for you to consider playing him tomorrow afternoon.

Other options: Michael Wacha (STL), Patrick Corbin (ARI), Nick Tropeano (LAA)

Hitters

Bryce Harper (FD – $5900, DK – $5000)

This acts as more of a friendly reminder to lock Harper into your lineups tomorrow, there’s not much analysis needed here. He is facing off with pedestrian righty Charlie Morton and the reigning MVP should be due for another huge day on Sunday.

Adrian Gonzalez (FD – $3,400, DK – $3800)

The Dodgers lefty slugger has an OPS over 1.000 against right-handed pitching so far on the young season, and Sunday night he is facing an inconsistent arm in Jeff Samardzija of the Giants. Gonzalez is locked into a prime RBI spot hitting behind Corey Seager and Justin Turner, and there should be ample opportunities with runners on base for the former Padre on Sunday. Adrian Gonzalez has always been known as a notorious hot-starter to the season so ride the production while you can!
