Fantasy Basketball: Add’em or Drop’em for 2/12/16

What’s up, GF2 fans! I’m back for another installment of my fantasy basketball Add’em or Drop’em players. The NBA All-Star break is officially upon us, which will cause a little bit of boredom in the fantasy sports realm. So, what do we do in our free time? Well, now is the time to take advantage of the waiver wire to check out and see who is available. Let’s look at dropping some of the dead weight and pick up a couple of solid guys to get your squad to the next level!

So, here’s my fantasy basketball Add’em or Drop’em players for the week:

Otto Porter, Wizards SF

Porter is owned in 69.2 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. It seems as if Porter is officially healthy once again, so he should play a big role in this Wizards offense. So far this year, he has averaged 12.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 30.9 minutes per contest. I love that Porter is seeing at least 30 minutes a game because he’ll always have an opportunity to stuff the stat sheets, which is obviously important for fantasy purposes. With John Wall, Bradley Beal and Porter in the mix, the Wizards have a deadly combo that should cause a ton of problems for opposing defenses for the rest of the year.

Verdict: Add’em

Tim Duncan, Spurs PF

Duncan is owned in 76.8 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. Unfortunately, Duncan has been plagued with injuries all season long with his most recent one being a bum knee. Well, he made his return to the court this week but the question is how much longer will it be before he’s on the sidelines once again. So far this year, Duncan has averaged 8.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 25.7 minutes per game for the Spurs. The biggest problem with owning most San Antonio players is the fact that Gregg Popovich isn’t afraid to rest players on any given night. I know Duncan is easily one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game but it’s officially time to give up on him from a fantasy standpoint.

Verdict: Drop’em

Jamal Crawford, Clippers SG

Crawford is owned in 50.8 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. I really enjoy watching Crawford play when he’s performing the way he has been as of late. Over his last seven games, he has scored 21+ fantasy points every night and has been one of the leading scorers for the Clippers. This season, Crawford has averaged 13.5 points, 2.2 assists and 1.7 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per contest. His season long stats aren’t mind boggling but with top scorer Blake Griffin out for an even longer period of time now has opened the door for Crawford, so I like him for the time being.

Verdict: Add’em

Taj Gibson, Bulls PF

Gibson is owned in 41.4 percent of ESPN fantasy basketball leagues this season. When Joakim Noah went down with his latest injury, I was one of the people who quickly jumped on Gibson’s bandwagon. Well, like others, I was wrong about Gibson who has been underwhelming thus far in Noah’s absence. This year, he has averaged a solid 8.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 26.8 minutes per night for Chicago. He actually left Wednesday night’s game with a left foot strain, so that’s another issue to keep your eye on. Maybe he’ll figure things out after the All-Star break but I don’t think I’m going to be there to find out.

Verdict: Drop’em

Norris Cole, Pelicans PG

The Pelicans have been plagued with injuries all season long and things got even worse for the franchise this week. Not only is Eric Gordon still hurt, it’s looking like Tyreke Evans will be shut down for the rest of the season. This is going to open up a ton of playing time for Cole, who has been doing very well in Gordon and Evans’ absence. This year, he has averaged 9.9 points, 3.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 25.9 minutes per contest. New Orleans is officially back in the playoff race, so I expect them to continue giving Cole plenty of minutes to help our fantasy teams out the rest of the year.

Verdict: Add’em
