Fantasy Football: Bust Alert! WR Edition

We all know the best choice’s out there, even the safe choices.  But what about those who should do well but never do?  People like to gamble and go for the potential upside however there are some players that aren’t even worth the gamble.  We are going to take a look at 3 wide receivers that you should probably stay away from.

Golden Tate  |  Detroit Lions  |  ADP 24

With Calvin Johnson now retired, Golden Tate is looking to be the top target for QB Mathew Stafford.  Tate has only had one solid year and has never been the top guy.  He does great at as a WR2.  If you are hoping that he could step in and fill Megatron’s shoes, you are mistaken.  His best hope is putting up solid numbers on punt returns.  Now that there is no major target other than Tate, he will be covered up.  I just don’t see Tate being able to hold up and put up the season that people are expecting him to.

Brandon Marshall  |  New York Jets  |  ADP 10

I love Brandon Marshall.  With  Ryan Fitzpatrick as QB.  However, it is looking increasingly that he won’t be back.  That leaves Geno Smith throwing to Marshall.  Talent can go only so far!  Even if Fitzpatrick can come back, he will have missed a lot of time working out with Marshall.  He always develops great communication and relationships with his QB, just like he did with the Bears.  Unfortunately, Marshall is the type of player who is limited to the players around him.  A great receiver is only as good as the guy throwing the ball.  No matter how good he did last year the signs just don’t point to Marshall repeating last year.

Julian Edelman  |  New England Patriots  |  ADP 19

Edelman has a couple of issues against him this year.  The first one is him not playing with Star QB for 4 games.  He will be at the mercy of backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who is untested in regular season games.  Beyond that is simply the depth of talent on the field.  With the addition of TE Martellus Bennett to the lineup and Danny Amendola returning healthy, there are just too many good targets to catch the ball.  That is even before you think of Gronkowski, the top target and clear favorite of QB Tom Brady.  Add in that Edelman isn’t young anymore and suffered a near season-ending injury last year, I don’t like his chance’s to put up the numbers his talent would suggest.
