Fantasy Football: Cut’em or Keep’em: Week 6

Welcome back to Cut’em or Keep’em. In this column, I’ll break down the pros and cons of each player that may be on the chopping block for your respective team. Make sure to check back each week for more fantasy advice!

Cut’em or Keep’em Week 6

 Ben Roethlisberger, (PIT) 65% owned

The start of the 2017 season has been rough for the QBs in the 2003 draft class. Manning, Rivers, and Roethlisberger have all struggled after successful careers to this point. Roethlisberger had one of the worst games of his career last week when he threw five interceptions and had a passing rating of just 37.6. To be clear, this game was not an isolated incident. The Steelers veteran has averaged 39 attempts per game, yet he has only thrown for over 300 yards one (last week, with 55 attempts). This year he has the lowest YPA, TD%, and passer rating of his career. On the flip side, Roethlisberger has the highest INT% of his career. Fantasy wise, he has been less than serviceable, ranking 24th out of 27 QBs who have played all five games this year.

Verdict: Cut

Demaryius Thomas, (DEN) 97.8% owned

Though Thomas is ranked 58th among WRs in fantasy football so far, his owners should not be too worried. In his four games, Thomas has received less than nine targets just once. Additionally, he has put up a decent amount of yardage in 75% of those performances with 236 yards in those three games. If Thomas is able to start reeling in touchdowns he’ll instantly become a top-20 commodity in fantasy football.  VerdictKeep

Martavias Bryant, (PIT) 86.8% owned

Bryant performed extremely well in limited action over the past few years. In 22 total games, he scored 14 touchdowns as a fringe starter for the Steelers. Last year he missed the entirety of the season due to a suspension, but expectations were still high going into this season. In 2017, his production is not there. Bryant is getting targeted a decent amount (31 targets through five games), but Pittsburgh inefficient offense has hurt Byant. His yards per reception and touchdown numbers have dropped, which was his calling card in the past.

Verdict: Cut

Tarik Cohen, (CHI) 72.8% owned

Tarik Cohen got off to a blistering start to the 2017 season. With Jordan Howard struggling and Cohen making the most of his Opportunites, it seemed as though the rookie might have become the “David Johnson” of this year’s fantasy season. Since then, Cohen’s efficiency has dipped dramatically. While obviously, his YPC through three games (6.54) was not sustainable, the YPC has dropped to 3.08. Additionally, Howard has now had three successful games and one serviceable performance in his five appearances. With Howard maintaining the bell cow roll and Cohen falling back to Earth, it is safe to cut him from your team.    Verdict: Cut
