Fantasy Football: GoingFor2.com’s Writer’s League Draft Results Rds. 1-5

GoingFor2.com is now going into it’s second NFL season and over the last year and a half I’ve put together a good team of writers that cover a variety of topics. This year I decided to create a writer’s league and let them put their football knowledge on display. The following are the results from our recent fantasy draft for our 12-team PPR redraft league. I’m going to give you some brief analysis of every round and then I’m going to be judge, jury and executioner and give you one winner and one loser from each round. At the end of the draft I will be handing out grades to each writer, much like Yahoo! does for their leagues. Let me introduce you to the league mates…

Round 1
1. Todd Gurley(LA – RB) Don’t Get In…
2. Antonio Brown(Pit – WR) JoshGordon a…
3. DeAndre Hopkins(Hou – WR) Run DeForest…
4. Odell Beckham Jr.(NYG – WR) BradB’s Boss…
5. David Johnson(Ari – RB) Butters Boys
6. Julio Jones(Atl – WR) Michael’s Team
7. Rob Gronkowski(NE – TE) I Wanna Ertz…
8. Dez Bryant(Dal – WR) Brad R’s Team
9. Ezekiel Elliott(Dal – RB) Zeke and Des…
10. Adrian Peterson(Min – RB) Le’Veon on a…
11. A.J. Green(Cin – WR) The Professor
12. Le’Veon Bell(Pit – RB) Wentz Upon a…

Analysis: It didn’t take long to have our first surprise in this draft as Brandon (Don’t Get in My Way) took Todd Gurley with the No. 1 overall pick.  The second surprise in the draft was my pick at No. 3 overall, choosing to go with DeAndre Hopkins over both Julio Jones and Odell Beckham. Kellie (Wentz Upon a Time) wraps up the first round with Le’Veon Bell, who slipped in light of his recent suspension. This could end up being the best pick of this draft if Bell can get his suspension reversed. The first round saw 6 WRs, 5 RBs and Rob Gronkowski.

Winner: JoshGordon is a Freeman gets the nod after getting the consensus No. 1 overall pick Antonio Brown at the No. 2 spot thanks to Brandon’s gamble at one.

Loser: I’m going to put myself (Run DeForest Run) in the loser column here. I may regret passing on Beckham and Jones, but I have ‘Nuk Hopkins ranked higher in my early season rankings so I’ll stick with my convictions, but if I’m honest with myself, the safer choice would have been either of the other two guys.

Round 2
1. Brandon Marshall(NYJ – WR) Wentz Upon a…
2. Lamar Miller(Hou – RB) The Professor
3. Cam Newton(Car – QB) Le’Veon on a…
4. Allen Robinson(Jax – WR) Zeke and Des…
5. Jordy Nelson(GB – WR) Brad R’s Team
6. Jamaal Charles(KC – RB) I Wanna Ertz…
7. Eddie Lacy(GB – RB) Michael’s Team
8. Mark Ingram(NO – RB) Butters Boys
9. Alshon Jeffery(Chi – WR) BradB’s Boss…
10. Keenan Allen(SD – WR) Run DeForest…
11. Aaron Rodgers(GB – QB) JoshGordon a…
12. Amari Cooper(Oak – WR) Don’t Get In…

Analysis: Kellie (Wents Upon a Time) took a gamble by taking Brandon Marshall at the top of the 2nd round, but that gamble paid off when Ryan Fitzpatrick signed his one-year contract shortly after this draft was complete. We saw our first and second QBs here in the second round with Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers both taken in this round.

Winner: The Professor gets the nod here after taking Lamar Miller with the second pick in this round. Miller is in for a huge workload and could end the season as a top-five overall player.

Loser: No loser. Everyone did well in this round.

Round 3
1. Doug Martin(TB – RB) Don’t Get In…
2. Devonta Freeman(Atl – RB) JoshGordon a…
3. Mike Evans(TB – WR) Run DeForest…
4. Brandin Cooks(NO – WR) BradB’s Boss…
5. Julian Edelman(NE – WR) Butters Boys
6. Russell Wilson(Sea – QB) Michael’s Team
7. Kelvin Benjamin(Car – WR) I Wanna Ertz…
8. Demaryius Thomas(Den – WR) Brad R’s Team
9. LeSean McCoy(Buf – RB) Zeke and Des…
10. Jordan Reed(Was – TE) Le’Veon on a…
11. T.Y. Hilton(Ind – WR) The Professor
12. Matt Forte(NYJ – RB) Wentz Upon a…

Analysis: Another QB goes off the board in the third, as well as our second TE of the draft with Jordan Reed going to Le’Veon on a Prayer.

Winner: Zeke and Destroy gets the nod here as he lands LeSean McCoy and pairs him with his first round pick Ezekiel Elliot. He now has a very formidable one-two punch at RB.

Loser: Michael’s Team gets the L in this round. I think he could have waited for one more round and got a top tier QB, but by taking Russell Wilson here and passing on LeSean McCoy, he is putting all of his eggs in the Eddie Lacy basket as his top RB. It could work out in his favor if Lacy can return to form from two years ago, but there is a decent chance that Fat Eddie eats the eggs in that basket and reverts to the 2015 version.

Round 4
1. Golden Tate(Det – WR) Wentz Upon a…
2. Andrew Luck(Ind – QB) The Professor
3. Sammy Watkins(Buf – WR) Le’Veon on a…
4. Randall Cobb(GB – WR) Zeke and Des…
5. Carlos Hyde(SF – RB) Brad R’s Team
6. Ben Roethlisberger(Pit – QB) I Wanna Ertz…
7. Greg Olsen(Car – TE) Michael’s Team
8. Jarvis Landry(Mia – WR) Butters Boys
9. C.J. Anderson(Den – RB) BradB’s Boss…
10. Thomas Rawls(Sea – RB) Run DeForest…
11. Jeremy Langford(Chi – RB) JoshGordon a…
12. Blake Bortles(Jax – QB) Don’t Get In…

Analysis: Two more QBs (Ben Roethlisberger, Blake Bortles) off the board and our third TE, Greg Olsen, in round two.

Winner: Zeke and Destroy gets another W for his pick of Randall Cobb pairing him with his second-round pick Allen Robinson. Zeke and Destroy through the first four rounds has had himself an excellent draft.

Loser: I Wanna Ertz You Up reached a little too high for his QB taking Ben Roethlisberger in the fourth round. I believe he could have waited one more round to get his QB and still have gotten a top-tier guy. Drew Brees was available in the fifth for him but hindsight is 20/20.

Round 5
1. Jeremy Maclin(KC – WR) Don’t Get In…
2. Matt Jones(Was – RB) JoshGordon a…
3. Dion Lewis(NE – RB) Run DeForest…
4. Jeremy Hill(Cin – RB) BradB’s Boss…
5. Tyler Lockett(Sea – WR) Butters Boys
6. DeMarco Murray(Ten – RB) Michael’s Team
7. Jordan Matthews(Phi – WR) I Wanna Ertz…
8. Ryan Mathews(Phi – RB) Brad R’s Team
9. Drew Brees(NO – QB) Zeke and Des…
10. Doug Baldwin(Sea – WR) Le’Veon on a…
11. Michael Floyd(Ari – WR) The Professor
12. Eric Decker(NYJ – WR) Wentz Upon a…

Analysis: This round saw two Seahawks WRs go off the board — when is the last time you could say that? Tyler Lockett was drafted by Butters Boys, clearly expecting a breakout season from him, while Le’Veon on a Prayer takes Lockett’s teammate Doug Baldwin with the tenth pick in the fifth round.

Winner: Myself, Run DeForest Run, gets the win here. I was stoked to get the PPR monster Dion Lewis in the fifth round. I actually drafted him as my sleeper in all my drafts last year, and he paid off handsomely until he was injured.

Loser: Wentz Upon a Time gets the L here. In all fairness, her computer froze and was given the Yahoo! auto pick, but with her already owning Brandon Marshall, getting Eric Decker in the fifth round just makes no sense.
