Fantasy Football Week 16 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

It’s Week 16, also known as championship week in fantasy football. If this week still matters to you, in terms of a league title of consolation bracket win, finding an optimal lineup is important. On that note, here are your Week 16 streamers at quarterback, tight end and team defense.

Quarterback: Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans
Yahoo! Ownership: 57%

Yes, Bortles is a very flawed quarterback coming off a dismal Week 15 (12-for-28 for 92 yards with an interception) with less than 190 passing yards in three of the last four games. But he does have a rushing touchdown in two of the last three games, and a favorable matchup is coming in Week 16.

The Tennessee Titans enter this week allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks (17.2 per game; ESPN scoring), with at least 275 passing yards or multiple passing scores allowed in eight straight games (both six times)from Week 6-Week 14. That stretch included Week 8 against Jacksonville, when Bortles went 33-for-54 for a season-high 337 yards and three touchdowns along with 22 rushing yards.

All that matters fantasy-wise is the end result, however ugly it might look on tape. So if you’ve been streaming signal callers all season, Bortles is an easy option for Week 16 if he’s available in your league.

Others To Consider: Matt Barkley, Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins; Sam Bradford, Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers; Tom Savage, Houston Texans vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Tight End: Jared Cook, Green Bay Packers, vs. Minnesota Vikings
Yahoo! Ownership: 17%

Cook had six receptions (on eight targets) for 85 yards against the Chicago Bears in Week 15, which equaled his target total and exceeded his catch total from the previous three games. Back in Week 11 against he Washington Redskins, in his first game back after an extended absence with an ankle injury, Cook showed what he can do when he’s heavily involved with six receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.

The Minnesota Vikings have not been especially generous to tight ends this season. But it’s been feast (three touchdowns allowed) or famine (zero catches twice) over their last six games, and something called Erik Swoope burned them for a touchdown in Week 15.

I’m putting Cook in line for at least a handful of targets this week. It may only take one catch and run for him to deliver a solid stat line, but Cook’s upside is hard to hard to ignore if you’re looking for a tight end streamer in Week 16.

Others To Consider: Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys; Ryan Griffin, Houston Texans vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Team Defense: San Diego Chargers, at Cleveland Browns
Yahoo! Ownership: 31%

Once again, I probably had you with “at Cleveland Browns.” But the Chargers have registered multiple sacks in back-to-back games, against Cam Newton and Derek Carr, and they also lead the league with 17 interceptions (at least one in 12 of 14 games).

Over his two starts since Cleveland’s bye week, Robert Griffin III has only thrown one interception but he has taken eight sacks. The Browns have allowed at least three sacks in six straight games (31 total), with at least 10 fantasy points allowed (ESPN scoring) to an opposing defense in five straight games.

The Chargers’ defense has a safe fantasy floor this week, with huge upside potential. When it comes to a streaming option, that’s a no-brainer.

Others To Consider: New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (Thursday night); Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans; Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings
