Fantasy Football Week 2 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Before I unveil my Week 2 quarterback, tight end and team defense fantasy football streamers, let’s do an accountability session for Week 1 (Yahoo! scoring, four points per passing touchdown, 0.5 point PPR).

QB-Josh Allen: 17.96 points
TE-Jack Doyle: 2.5 points

Team Defense-Detroit Lions: 7 points

Now, here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for Week 2.

QB: Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills at New York Giants

If not for four turnovers against the New York Jets, Allen would have topped 23 fantasy points (Yahoo! scoring) in Week 1 and been a top-12 fantasy quarterback for the week. With a nice matchup coming in Week 2, I’m going back to the well for my quarterback streamer.

In Week 1, the New York Giants allowed 405 yards and four touchdowns through the air to Dak Prescott without registering a sack or forcing a turnover. Prescott also ran for 12 yards, but it’s safe to assume Allen will do better than that with his legs on Sunday.

Good passing numbers, the prospect of a rushing score and fewer turnovers against a defense that is just flat-out bad. Sounds like a recipe for Allen to have a big week, and this could very well be the last week he qualifies as a streamer.

Others To Consider: Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs; Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers; Case Keenum, Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys; Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts; Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals vs. San Francisco 49ers; Sam Darnold, New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns (Monday Night)

Tight End: T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Chargers

It seemed like the Lions reached when the took Hockenson eighth overall in April’s draft. But he proved worth it in Week 1, as he had six receptions for 131 yards (a record for a rookie tight end in his debut) and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals.

In Week 2, Hockenson gets what looks like a promising matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Indianapolis Colts’ tight ends didn’t do much against the Chargers in Week 1, as Jack Doyle, Eric Ebron and Mo Alie-Cox combined for three catches (on six targets) and 32 yards. But Los Angeles is without stud safety Derwin James, and they’ll be traveling for a game that will start at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.

Hockenson obviously has the lackluster history of rookie tight ends working against him. But he’s got legit weekly TE1 potential, and he is widely available to come in as the top tight end streamer for Week 2.

Others To Consider: Vernon Davis, Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys (check Jordan Reed‘s status); Darren Waller, Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs; Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Team Defense: Denver Broncos vs. Chicago Bears

The Broncos’ defense seemed to have a nice matchup against the Oakland Raiders in Week 1, then they delivered a Blutarsky (0.0) in fantasy points as they failed to sack or even hit Derek Carr while he completed 22 of 26 passes and averaged 10 yards per attempt.

But the Broncos get a nice chance a redemption this week. The Chicago Bears were shut down by a revived Green Bay Packers’ defense in Week 1, as they forced quarterback Mitch Trubisky to be a pocket passer with the expected results (26-for-45 for 228 yards, five sacks) as Chicago abandoned the running game.

Denver is operating from a point of unique familiarity regarding the Bears’ offense and Trubisky. Head coach Vic Fangio was Chicago’s defensive coordinator, and he ran a unit that practiced against Matt Nagy’s offensive scheme last year. Fangio presumably has a deeper knowledge of Trubisky’s limitations, beyond what’s on display most weeks.

The Broncos’ defense pushes the ownership boundary of qualifying as a waiver wire add or a streamer. But the matchup and broader situation, at home no less, is just too good to ignore for Week 2.
