Fantasy Football Week 3 Streamers: QB, TE, Team Defense

Heading toward Week 3, fantasy football owners now have a two-game body of work to refer to when considering streaming options. With that in mind, here are your quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for Week 3.

Quarterback: Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Wentz had another good performance Monday night, going 21-for-34 for 190 yards with a touchdown, and he now has 468 passing yards and three touchdown passes through two games. A Week 3 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers looks like his biggest test yet, since they’ve only allowed one passing touchdown so far this season. But the Steelers have allowed over 300 passing yards to Kirk Cousins (329) and Andy Dalton (366), on 97 combined pass attempts (second-most in the league).

Based on the likelihood of at least 40 pass attempts, Wentz has volume-based appeal as a streamer quarterback this week.

Honorable Mention: Sam Bradford, Minnesota Vikings at Carolina Panthers; Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens at Jacksonville Jaguars

Tight End: Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens at Jacksonville Jaguars

Pitta is healthy again, and after a tepid Week 1 (three catches for 39 yards) he had nine receptions (on 12 targets) for 102 yards in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns. Having success against the Browns needs to be kept in the right context, but Pitta is back as a top target for Joe Flacco.

The Ravens’ Week 3 opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars, have allowed just five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown to opposing tight ends through two games. But they did cede a touchdown to Antonio Gates last week, and to whatever extent it still matters they were a bottom-10 defense against tight ends in 2015.

Pitta should see plenty of targets again this week. Even in what looks like a bad matchup on the surface, Flacco’s success through the air should keep his tight end above water as a fantasy streamer.

Honorable Mention: Jacob Tamme, Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints

Team Defense: Miami Dolphins vs. Cleveland Browns

My recommendation of the Dolphins’ defense as a streamer for Week 2 did not pan out, but I’m going back to the well for Week 3. The Cleveland Browns will be on their third starting quarterback in as many weeks, and if rookie Cody Kessler is absolutely abysmal or gets injured Charlie Whitehurst has been signed as his backup.

Miami’s defense has five sacks and two fumble recoveries through two games, and it goes without saying coordinator Vance Joseph will turn up the heat on Kessler as often as possible. Mistakes are virtually certain to happen in that scenario, and even if they don’t the Browns’ offense should have a tough time moving the ball.

If the Dolphins somehow let me down again this week, I’ll probably never recommend them again as a streaming defense. But a matchup against the Browns is just too enticing to turn down.

Honorable Mention: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Los Angeles Rams
