Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire

What a crazy week we just had. Studs played like duds, running backs were dropping like flies, and fantasy owners were being carried by unexpected players. For example look at this week’s running backs that eclipsed the century mark. They consisted of Isaiah Crowell, LeGarrette Blount, Melvin Gordon, Matt Forte, and Fozzy Whittaker. Before the season started none of the guys were considered RB1 and only Forte was being treated as an RB2. I suspect most our studs will rebound and balance will be restored to the fantasy world. That said if you were unfortunate to fall victim to injury, which there were a lot of, or one of your guys is just underperforming with no light at the end of the tunnel, it’s not too late to find help on the wire. Hopefully, someone on this list can help you get your team trending in the right direction. All ownership percentages are based on Yahoo’s ownership as of 9/20 at 9AM EST.

Top Waiver Wire Adds for Week 3

NoHalftime Waiver Add of the Week: QB Ryan Tannehill (Dolphins)

Tannehill is available in 71 percent of leagues on Yahoo. That is a huge number for a guy that could easily end up with QB 1 numbers by season’s end. His head coach is a pass friendly coach and he has one of the best young receiver corp in the NFL. Despite having two very difficult games to open the season, he sits less than one point outside the top ten for QB’s. This week he faces the Browns who have been generous to opposing QB’s. If you invested high on your QB with guys like Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, or Blake Bortles you might want to consider using Tannehill until your stud gets back on track.

Position Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets)

Honestly, I am not that thrilled with Fitzpatrick, but rather I am really impressed with the trio of wide receivers that Jets are running out there every play. I did not see a lot of great throws by Fitz, especially down field, but I did see a lot of great catches, especially down field. Currently, Fitz is only owned in 41 percent of Yahoo leagues, which mean there is a decent chance he might not be there, but if he is I would secure him as my backup or even spot starter. As long has he has at least two of his three receivers to throw too, I think Fitz will continue to put up serviceable numbers.

Position Jerick McKinnon (Vikings)

This spot could have easily gone to Fozzy Whittaker because it seems his situation is a little more solid, in that he should be starting for the next week or two. But I love McKinnon and Adrian Peterson has a torn meniscus. The problem is the Vikings have not ruled him out this week yet, leaving McKinnon’s value in flux. That aside I think AP sits this one out. McKinnon has been in the system, AP is old, they are 2 – 0, and no need to rush AP back and risk a worse injury. McKinnon is available in 75% of Yahoo league, and in a week that saw plenty of RB’s go down and or under perform, I suspect they will be flying off the shelf once waivers clear Wednesday morning. Hopefully, you are high enough on the waiver that yoJerrick u can land one of these guys.

  • Fozzy Whittaker – (Panters) – 6 percent owned
  • Charles Sims – (Buccaneers) – 52 percent owned
  • Kenyan Drake – (Dolphins) – 1 percent owned
  • Jay Ajayi – (Dolphins) – 27 percent owned

Position Quincy Enunwa (Jets)

I mention earlier being impressed with the Jets receiving corp and this is one of the guys I was talking about. Through two game his slash is 13/146/1, not bad for the WR3. If you watched the Jets and Bills game last Thursday night you saw Enunwa pull down deep passes and take quick hits for first downs and breaking tackles along the way. This guy clearly has Fitz’s trust. If one of your starting receivers is Brandon Marshall who hurt his knee last week I recommended you take advantage of Enunwa’s 10% ownership and add him. If you are higher on the wire then the guy with Marshall I would be looking to steal him. Either way, I think he is a great start while Marshall is out and a good when even if Marshall plays.

Position Dennis Pitta (Ravens)

I wanted to put Jacob Tamme here, because while Tamme’s number are a little better than Pitta’s, I can’t ignore the fact the Flacco has had a long and good history with Pitta. Back in 2012 when the Ravens won the Super Bowl Pitta was an important piece of that puzzle, and if Flacco and Pitta fall back into that comfort zone again and Pitta’s stays on the field he can put up TE1 numbers. Of course that second if is a big one, but in the mean time, I would be more than happy to ride it as long as I could. He is only owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues, so as long as you don’t have a Ravens fan in your league you can probably get him.

The Professor

I have been playing fantasy football since 1991. My first draft I had the first pick and the first player I ever drafted was Randall Cunningham. I remember that because he broke his leg in the first half of the season. Since then I have been hooked on fantasy football and I have not and will not ever draft a QB in the first round again.
