Fantasy Football: Week 5 Cut’em or Keep’em

Alright, fantasy football fans, for Week 5 I’m going to start a new GF2 article! Basically what we’ll be discussing in this article are a group of higher owned players who you should either drop from your teams or hang on to them. Each week that goes by there’s always questions flying around about whether or not a player can turn his season around. I’m here to help you all determine who indeed you should cut or keep.

So, let’s get started with Week 5’s “Cut’em or Keep’em”!

Brandin Cooks, WR Saints

Cooks is owned in 94.9 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues this season. The Saints have had a disappointing season so far and things didn’t look much better for Cooks in Week 4. So far this season, he has caught 20 balls for 215 yards and no scores, which is far from what I expected from him in 2015. Cooks began the year as a potential number one fantasy option at wide receiver, but now we’re lucky if he’s a solid flex play. I do think as Drew Brees’ shoulder continues to get healthier things will improve within the Saints’ passing game.

Verdict: Keep’em

Andre Johnson, WR Colts

Johnson is owned in roughly 71.7 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues. Prior to the beginning of the 2015 season, I had high hopes that he would be the next big thing in Indy. I was completely wrong about Johnson, though, he has been a flat out bust so far this year. In 2015, Johnson has only caught seven passes for 51 yards and no touchdowns. Donte Moncrief has actually jumped him on the depth chart and has a much better chemistry with Andrew Luck. Between Moncrief and T.Y. Hilton, there’s just not enough targets to go around with the Colts.

Verdict: Cut’em

Jarvis Landry, WR Dolphins

Landry is owned in right at 94.1 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues. He’s been much more solid than Johnson, but he has yet to exceed my lofty expectations in 2015. So far this season, Landry has caught 28 balls for 270 yards and no scores. The Dolphins as a whole have been an utter fantasy disappointment thus far this year, but I still have hope that things will balance out for them. Ryan Tannehill is just too solid of a quarterback to not get Landry the ball more, so don’t give up on him just yet.

Verdict: Keep’em

Zach Ertz, TE Eagles

Ertz is owned in 70.3 percent of leagues on ESPN this season. Talking about a tight end who has vastly underachieved so far this season, Ertz is that guy. We were all super excited to see how Chip Kelly’s offense would perform in 2015, so far it has fallen pretty much flat on its face. In 2015, Ertz has caught 10 passes for 104 yards and no touchdowns, averaging a measly 35.4 yards per game. His best game came in Week 1 where he caught three passes for 46 yards, which still isn’t what we were anticipating from Ertz this year.

Verdict: Cut’em

T.J. Yeldon, RB Jaguars

Yeldon is owned in 91.4 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues. Overall this season, Yeldon has been solid but has yet to make a major fantasy impact for our squads. He has rushed the ball 70 times for 259 yards and no touchdowns. I truly believe that Yeldon will be one of the better rookie running backs for this season. A few weeks this year, Jacksonville has had to play catch up, so Yeldon was used a lot less. From what I saw in Week 4, though, the Jaguars look better this season than they have in a long time. Keep your eye on him in the coming weeks, I’m almost positive you’ll be happy with his eventual fantasy numbers.

Verdict: Keep’em
