Fantasy Football Week 8 Streamers: QB, TE and Team Defense

Before I unveil Week 8’s streamers, let’s do the accounting for Week 7 (Yahoo! scoring, four points per passing touchdown, full-point PPR).

Quarterback: Josh Allen-21.28 points
Tight End-Hunter Henry-15.7 points
Team Defense-San Francisco 49ers-15 points

With the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys on a bye, here are my quarterback, tight end and team defense streamers for Week 8.

Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tannehill started in place of Marcus Mariota in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers, and went 23-for-29 for 314 yards and two touchdowns with an interception. He’ll get another start in Week 8, in a very nice matchup.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks (21.41 per game, Yahoo! scoring). Four straight signal callers have thrown multiple passing touchdowns against them, and before Kyle Allen in Week 6 four straight quarterbacks threw for at least 314 yards against them. More broadly, Tampa Bay has the league’s worst pass defense from a raw, traditional, statistical perspective (304.5 yards per game).

There’s a solid list of quarterback streaming options this week, for those that are notably without Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson or Dak Prescott. But I’m taking it a little deeper, and going with Tannehill as my top streamer at the position for Week 8.

ESPN Ownership: 2.3%
Yahoo! Ownership: 5%

Others To Consider: Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Redskins (Thursday night); Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants; Mason Rudolph, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins (Monday night); Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos; Sam Darnold, New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars; Daniel Jones, New York Giants at Detroit Lions; Mitch Trubisky, Chicago Bears vs. Los Angeles Chargers; Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets; Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders at Houston Texans

Tight End: Eric Ebron, Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos

Ebron had four catches for 70 yards and the No. 1 play on SportsCenter Sunday night touchdown catch against the Houston Texans in Week 7. He has scored in two of his last three games, and three of the last five (at least four targets in each), with over 7.5 full-point PPR fantasy points four times in those last five contests.

It’s not a great matchup for Ebron in Week 8, as the Denver Broncos are in the top half of the league against tight ends with only one touchdown allowed to the position through seven games. But the tight end target volume against them is in the upper part of the league (as toward the most tight end targets in the league).

Ebron is very touchdown-dependent, among many tight ends that fit that bill among the streaming options for Week 8. But give me Ebron, with a quarterback that’s playing well against a defense that may be ready to pack it in quickly if things go off the rails on Sunday.

ESPN Ownership: 39.2%
Yahoo! Ownership: 53%

Others To Consider: Darren Fells, Houston Texans vs. Oakland Raiders; Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals; Chris Herndon, New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars (check health status); Jonnu Smith, Tennessee Titans vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Josh Hill, New Orleans Saints vs. Arizona Cardinals; Cameron Brate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Tennessee Titans; Noah Fant, Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts

Team Defense: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins (Monday night)

Over their four games going into their Week 7 bye, the Steelers’ defense had multiple takeaways in each game (13 total) with 15 total sacks (with games of eight and five). They’ve allowed 17 or less points in two of their last three, with a fantastic matchup coming in Week 8.

After they were shut out by the New England Patriots Monday night, the New York Jets have usurped the Miami Dolphins as the team most generous to opposing defenses. They have been a bit better since Ryan Fitzpatrick stepped back in for Josh Rosen, but Miami is still the highest upside matchup for a fantasy defense on a weekly basis.

We get Steelers-Dolphins on the Monday night stage for Week 8, which is sure to be fun to watch (he said, sarcastically). But Pittsburgh’s defense is the top streamer for the week, in another week that looks pretty thin.

ESPN Ownership: 34.4%
Yahoo! Ownership: 50%

Others To Consider: Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos; Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs (Sunday night); Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers (check ownership); Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Jets (check ownership); Houston Texans vs. Oakland Raiders (check ownership)
