This year marks the 100th anniversary of one of the world’s most dangerous car races, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC). Although it’s length is only 12.42 miles, the course has 156 turns and begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the mountain’s summit 14,115 foot up. The beautiful Colorado Springs, CO location attracts thousands of spectators and top drivers around the world.
The CEO and Founder of GO PUCK, Blake Fuller, is one of those drivers that will compete to be king of the mountain. Entered into the Electric Productions class, he will be driving a Model S Tesla—the first time the World’s best selling electric car will make a PPIHC appearance.As the sun rose over Colorado Springs and qualifying teams lined to take the start on Thursday, the GO PUCK Tesla team finished final preparations to make an attack on the Production EV record.
Last to take the start, GO PUCK driver Blake Fuller quickly showed an ability to outpace all of the earlier practice times they had set earlier in the week.
As he passed the halfway point of qualifying at 10,000ft (TBC) with speeds of 100mph his pace was already well ahead of the record.
As the 1st qualifying attempt ended, Blake’s time was 4:50.268 – 30 seconds faster of the previous record of 5:21.901
With the record already in the books, Blake and his team made a second run, as there was no time for charging, went out with less battery but still completed an even faster record of 4:47.264, which stands as the fastest production electric car ever on Pikes Peak International Hill Climb history!
The race is on Sunday, June 26th at 8am.
As each car will race up the hill according to their class and qualifying order, Blake Fuller and the GO PUCK Tesla are scheduled to start their record attempt around 10am Sunday morning
