greetings from bearville. just call me dabear!

Greetings from Bearville!

Hey there sports fans, and dfs-sters in particular! I’m greycloudbear, or “the dude” for short, and today is my first write-up for goingfor2.com. I’ve been writing publicly for over ten years in various sites and for various sites on the web. I’ve been on the web, like it or not, since ’97, and I’ve seen the changes that have happened since then, and to be honest, forget the leaps and bounds of the growth of the web, the changes have been exponential! Much like that of the growth of DFS. I’ve been doing fantasy football, for the past five years, and though I’ve never been the “champion,” I pretty much..erm…rock. I’ve never had a losing season! I am fluent and can easily speak in a post doctorate world in the language of sarcasm.

People love me or hate me.

And it would be very truly wrong of me to not thank Geoff and Goingfor2.com for this opportunity. Thank you. Also my broseph draftmasterdrew, for connecting me.

A few noteworthy moments in my personal world of sports:

Having the opportunity to golf with hockey legend Jim Craig. What? You don’t know who he is? You obviously don’t know the famous quote “do you believe in miracles?” One of those moments I realized that people gonna “hate the dude.”

Jaromir Jagr is perhaps, the most humble of superstars in the world. Hands down.

Hockey players are the best players to be around.

Bill Walton is a tall, tall, dude.

Hitting my first home run, the same day (and near time) as Hank Aaron hit 714.

Predicting in customary fashion the winners of each post season NFL game in 2002 and having a perfect record. I call that season the “revenge of Chuckie!” Worse yet, I’m a Raider fan!

2017 marked the first season in which I was able to predict the final 4 in NCAA men’s hoops. I even got the final two teams right, but alas, Gonzaga lost. Three of the past four years of the Big Dance I was in the top 3% on ESPN and Yahoo’s bracket.

I can select MLB pitchers to usually win or garner around 40 Fantasy Points. This is about 85% of the time, and I have proof.

One of my most famous quotes of the world of sports is “baseball is not only a game of numbers but a game of inches.”

Things you should never talk or gloat about around me:

The immaculate reception. That will probably leave you in a place that requires 24 hour supervision.

The flip. I love Jeter, but, the flip? No.

And Kirk Gibson’s home run will bring ire to the fire.

Final words sir?

In ending this lovely, cool, collection of words, I want to preface the word “greatest,” and I imagine this will be one of my next articles for gf2. I’ve seen a lot of players in my time, and have seen the evolution of professional sports that goes with it.

First off, you can’t compare one player from another time, to say, today’s player. Impossible. And better yet consider this: back in those previous days there were less teams to play, and no offense, todays teams are of lesser quality.

Secondly, so many players are put on a cushy pedestal by EVERYONE, and that’s one of the first and greatest problems of adulation. I grew up in an era where players had similar working wages to us normal folk and during the off season, these guys owned burger kings and sold toilet seats for a living. I prefer the humanity (and humility) of players. Humanity today of sports players is a photo op or a tax write-off. You don’t see that true human touch much in players nowadays, especially American bred. Someone will always take the crown.

I think that’s it and as John Lennon once said “I hope we passed the audition.”
