League of Legends: A Symphony of Death

He has finally arrived summoners! Jhin, the Virtuoso has left the PBE and sauntered his way onto live. For those who don’t know anything about our little death artist here, Jhin has been nicknamed the Deadeye in addition to the Virtuoso. This moniker comes from his choice of weapon, ironically named Whisper. Whisper doubles as both a hand cannon and when fully constructed a long range sniper rifle. Jhin is all about performance and theatrics, he relishes the kill and revels in its preparation. Summoners will need to adjust their usual play style to fit with Jhin’s specific brand of perfection if they seek to master the Virtuoso. Let’s dive right into the abilities!Jhin_Passive

First up is Jhin’s passive, named for his gun Whisper. Jhin chambers four shots in his gun at a time, the last of which will always crit and applies extra damage based on his target’s missing health. After Jhin fires all of his shots, he will take a moment to reload his weapon before being able to fire again. Jhin’s crits also deal less damage than normal and he does not benefit from attack speed. Instead additional attack speed and crit chance Jhin gets from runes or itemization give him additional attack damage. This can give him an immense amount of AD, he can even reach upwards of 700 total AD with the right items. In addition to all that, Jhin gains a burst of movement speed every time his attacks crit, this burst is based on his attack speed.

Jhin’s Q is Dancing Grenade. This is a targeted ability that when cast, bounces to up to four nearby enemies. Killing an enemy with this ability causes the following bounces to deal increasingly more damage. This ability is best used as a way to punish opponents in lane while keeping up with CS. Optimally this ability will bounce and kill three minions before taking its final bounce to deal maximum damage to the enemy champion.

Jhin’s W is Deadly Flourish. This ability has an active as well as a passive. The passive is definitely the more attractive of the two though as it can be used to set enemies up to be killed. When Jhin gets this ability, any enemy champion that has been struck by Jhin’s basic attacks, Captive Audience, or any allied damaged, they will be marked for a few seconds. The active lets Jhin fire an insanely long range skill shot that damages all enemy minions and the first enemy champion hit. If the enemy champion that Jhin hits with this ability has been marked they’re briefly rooted and Jhin gains a burst of movement speed. This ability gives him both great chase potential as well as good kiting potential.

Jhin’s E is Captive Audience. This ability has a passive as well as an active. The active lets Jhin place traps on the ground that turns invisible after arming. Enemy champions that walk over the trap trigger it, revealing and marking them with Deadly Flourish as well as creating a large slowing zone. After a pause for dramatic effect, the trap then detonates, dealing damage to all enemies inside its explosion. This is one of Jhin’s most damaging abilities, and if chained together well with a root from Deadly Flourish, can cause a reliable and sizable amount of damage to enemies. The passive of this ability is called Beauty in Death. This passive makes it so that whenever Jhin kills an enemy, a slow zone spawns at their death location and after a brief moment explodes dealing the same damage as Captive Audience.

Jhin’s ultimate Jhin_Ris Curtain Call. This is his finale. Jhin fully assembles Whisper before taking aim in a target direction, revealing all marked targets in a huge area. He can then fire four shots, much like his passive, that stop at the first enemy champion hit. These shots slow and deal damage based on the champions missing health. Jhin’s final shot with Curtain Call deals massively increased damage and is guaranteed to crit.

Jhin’s abilities are a little confusing at first and definitely take some getting used to. But with the right preparation and practice, any summoner could achieve perfection and put on a magnificent show. See you on the Rift!
