Minnesota Timberwolves Team Preview: Kevin Garnett’s Last Ride

The Minnesota Timberwolves are a young team who could very well make waves in the Western Conference this season. They have such a variety of weapons in their arsenal that can be used for your fantasy team this year. Veteran Wolves’ Ricky Rubio, Kevin Martin and Kevin Garnett will lead this group on a quest to make the playoffs this year and help us win our fantasy leagues.

So, here is my 2015-16 fantasy team preview for the Minnesota Timberwolves:

Kevin Garnett, PF

Let’€™s get started with one of the greatest power forwards to ever step foot on a basketball court, Kevin Garnett. Garnett was an absolute beast in Minnesota before leaving to join the Celtics back in 2007. Over his long, illustrious career, he has averaged 18.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. Also, he has shot 49 percent from the field and 79 percent from the charity stripe for his career. Coming into his 21st season, Garnett is looking to make one more run with your fantasy rosters.

I know, I know, Garnett wasn’™t quite fantasy relevant last season. Last year in Brooklyn, he only averaged 7.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. I don’t see him having numbers anywhere near his career bests in 2015-16, however, he will be in the starting lineup for the Wolves and can contribute for fantasy purposes. Garnett is an absolute general on the court and could be just that for your fantasy team this year.

Fantasy Prediction for 2015-16

10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists

Andrew Wiggins, SG

Wiggins had a sensational rookie campaign with the Wolves in 2014, winning Rookie of the Year honors. Wiggins was drafted 1st overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2014 NBA Draft but was shipped to Minnesota in the Kevin Love trade. In my opinion, the Wolves won this trade in the long run. Last year, Wiggins averaged 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Now with one full year under his belt, I think he can really increase his numbers for fantasy this year.

At every point in his life, the world has had major expectations for Wiggins and it won’€™t be any different in 2015-16. Last year, he came into the league as a raw talent who needed to find his place at the professional level. Some things that I see him improving on this year are his three-point shooting percentages and attempts. He will be a viable option at the shooting guard position for fantasy basketball this year and should be drafted in all formats. In mock drafts this off-season, I’€™ve seen Wiggins, go as high as the 4th Round, there aren’€™t a large group of quality shooting guards out there so get your hands on him in 2015-16.

Fantasy Prediction for 2015-16

20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists

Karl-Anthony Towns, C

Towns could easily follow in Wiggins’ footsteps and win ROY honors this season. He had a good season for the University of Kentucky last year, averaging 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in just 21.1 minutes per game. He also shot a fantastic 81 percent from the free-throw line and 57 percent from the field. Towns was the first overall pick in 2015, which means obvious high expectations will be surrounding him in Minnesota.

Towns has already made a great decision in Minnesota by proclaiming Garnett as his mentor. Honestly, this was probably the main reason for the Wolves to bring Garnett back home for one last ride. Towns will learn more than enough from him, making him a potential fantasy stud by the end of the season. I firmly believe that he won’™t let fantasy owners down who draft him in 2015-16. In most mock drafts, he’€™s going around the 5th Round, grab him here and you’ll obtain a highly valuable center this year.

Fantasy Prediction for 2015-16

16.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists
