NBA: Curry & Barnes Return to Spice Things Up for Golden State

By: Jared Sutterfield

The NBA season is in full swing and the Golden State Warriors continue to be unstoppable as ever. Although some injuries have occasionally kept the team from performing at 100 percent, everyone looks healthy and back on top of their game. As a result, the Warriors don’t seem to be moving anywhere from their perch at the top of the heap.

EP-150519931Golden State superstar Stephen Curry has been nursing an injured shin lately that was re-aggravated during the team’s recent match against the Denver Nuggets. However, seeing as this team isn’t actually human but actually the “Monstars” from Space Jam in hyper-realistic people suits, Curry was right back at it and dropped 30 on the Charlotte Hornets in an 111-101 victory. Thirty points and a win is what this guy does when he’s coming back from an injury. Again, not human.

And as if the team wasn’t lethal enough with Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green running game on every team in town, Sports Illustrated reported that Harrison Barnes is back from his ankle injury that has seen him sitting on the sidelines since Nov. 22, 2015. The small forward has proven himself an essential cog in the Golden State machine. Although, the team has proven it can still win without him, they’re a true force to be reckoned with when everybody is on the floor.

It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that the Warriors are going to run wild all the way to the championship this year. However, if you’re trying to learn about second place, there are some tips at Betfair for the teams that aren’t looking like a reincarnation of the ’95-’96 Chicago Bulls. Last year, the Warriors went 67-15 en route to a championship. This year, they look like they could very well be the second team to ever record 70 wins in a season and potentially break the Bulls’ record of 72. The site had actually given the San Antonio Spurs a slight edge over the Warriors to win the championship this season, and the team definitely remains a viable candidate for a ring. That said, as good as Popovich and the Spurs might be right now, we honestly can’t see anyone touching Golden State given the way they’re playing.

ESPN points out that with the return of Barnes, the team is once again getting back to the dominant force they were in the first half of the season. With that in mind, we’d be hard pressed to bet against them regardless of their opponent. With everyone healthy, the team is practically unstoppable, as evidenced by the mere two losses to the Spurs’ six and the Cleveland Cavaliers’ nine.

It’s truly rare to get to see a team this good. Hell, it’s been 20 years since the Bulls’ now legendary season and it’s not too often you get to watch history go down in real time. When a team is playing this good, sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the show.
