NBA Daily Fantasy: The Un-Rosterables

Week 1 of the NBA season is in the books and so far we have a pretty good gauge of what kind of minutes we’re going to see from players and what their role in the offense will be. All the prices on FD are based on how well the player did last season, so some players are much too overpriced for their production or current situation. The following players will not be in any of my rosters in any format until their current situation changes or their price significantly decreases.

Paul George

Don’t get me wrong, Paul George is a very special player and a perennial all-star, but FanDuel and DraftKings’ perception of George has always affected his fantasy value. The offseason acquisitions of Teague, Big Al, and Thad Young have turned the Pacers into a top contender in the East, but because of those signings(and the emergence of Myles Turner) there are too many mouths to feed in Indiana. Through the first three games of the season, PG13 has fallen outside the top 50 players in terms of usage, yet he is still priced near the LeBron James and KD’s of the world. He’s missed value in every game this season and that streak should continue considering he is still $9,200 on FanDuel.

Brook Lopez

Through trade rumors every single deadline, several roster turnovers, and the team moving cities five years ago, it’s pretty amazing Lopez is still a member of the Nets. It’s no secret that big men deteriorate a lot quicker than guards and forwards, because of their style of play and massive size, but Lopez’s struggles this year come as a bit of a head scratcher. He’s still just 28 and he is the focal point of the offense on a team with no real offensive options besides Jeremy Lin. His usage is still top 20 in the league, but he is shooting just 44% through three games and averaging just 4 rebounds/game(I also don’t know why a 7-footer can’t get more than 8 boards a game) Lopez is severely overpriced on both sites and should be faded virtually every night. He’s got a floor of 8 points and like a ceiling of 32, yet he’s still over $8,000 on FanDuel.

Steph Curry

Dare I say that this might be Durant’s team now?? Curry has been awfully quiet so far through three games of the new season, averaging just 32.3 FD points/game and hasn’t had a game where he’s put up more than 33.Curry has been scoring the ball just like always, but his assist numbers are way down and he has just 5 rebounds through 3 games. Durant, Green, and Zaza are all over the glass, so the rebounding numbers that we saw from Curry last year are gone, but personally, I thought his assist numbers would skyrocket this season. FanDuel has accounted for his price a little bit, but he’s still $8,700, which is an easy fade until he drops to about $7900 or so. I know it’s just three games into the season, but this does not look like a Finals caliber team in the slightest. They got annihilated by San Antonio, beat the Pelicans by single digits, and beat the 0-4 Suns by just 6. This is a new team and players have to get used to one another, but there are definitely going to be some growing pains throughout the 82 game season.

Karl-Anthony Towns

After a historic rookie campaign, we haven’t seen the same KAT this year as we did in 2015. It is a very small sample size, but he’s averaging just 5 rebounds a game and has logged 37 minutes/game over the Wolves first two contests. A couple of reasons that make me want to fade Towns until his price drops considerably are that Dieng is getting all the rebounding action and Wiggins is taking up all of the shots to start the year(15th in the league in usage) Wiggins is averaging 0 assists through the first two games and I’ve watched both of Minnesota’s contests, Wiggins just does not pass the ball once it is dished to him, which really hurts Towns especially. With the added fact that Rubio is now hurt, the offense probably won’t run as smoothly with rookie Kris Dunn… so I can’t see myself playing Towns in the near future.
