NBA DFS FanDuel Lineup Advice (11/18/2016)

Only a few weeks into the NBA season and we are already dealing with players getting days off for rest and numerous players dealing with injuries which continually shake up playing time and rotations which expose increased opportunities for other players. Friday night’s 10-game slate is no different with a bunch of game-time decisions to monitor leading up to tipoff.

So, with that here are my FanDuel player recommendations for the Friday slate…

NBA DFS FanDuel lineup advice for November 18

Point Guards

Top Play

Russell Westbrook (OKC) $11,400

With some question marks around Anthony Davis’ status for Friday night, Westbrook is by far the top high-priced player on the slate, playing at home against the Nets. While the Nets have allowed fewer points to opposing PG this season they have allowed a significant increase in peripheral stats which Westbrook racks up on a nightly basis. Pay up for Westbrook to anchor your lineup and get some value elsewhere.

Value Pick

Jeff Teague (IND) $6,500

Teague has provided solid production at the point guard position all season and has average about 35 FanDuel points over his last five games. He gets a plus matchup on Friday at home against the Suns who have allowed more points (+24.8%) and rebounds (+5.9%) to opposing PG this season. Teague is a solid cash game option but look elsewhere in GPPs.

Other Options: Kyle Lowry (TOR) $8,300 / Isaiah Thomas (BOS) $8,300 / Marcus Smart (BOS) $5,600

Shooting Guards

Top Pick

DeMar DeRozen (TOR) $ 9,200

DeRozen has started the season on fire averaging 33.3 points per game. The biggest advancement in his game has been his ability to get to the free throw line on a consistent basis averaging over 10 attempts per game this year. He should be able to light up the scoreboard again on Friday against a Nuggets team that is allowing 107.8 points per game and are a plus matchup for opposing shooting guards who have a +13.2% points adjustment this year.

Value Pick

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (DET) $4,900

Caldwell-Pope could provide some salary relief from a player who has averaged over 16 shots per game over his last five outings on his way to 21+ FanDuel points in each game. Caldwell-Pope will also benefit from a Cavaliers defense that has allowed an increase in points (+5.8%) and rebounds (+10.0%) to opposing SG this season.

Other Options: CJ McCollum (POR) $7,500 / Avery Bradley (BOS) $7,000 / Victor Oladipo (OKC) $5,500

Small Forwards

Top Pick

Kawhi Leonard (SA) $8,500

There aren’t many players as steady as Leonard who has scored at least 26 FanDuel points in every game this season while averaging 39.7 FanDuel points per game. While there are some big name small forwards on the slate, Leonard has potentially the best matchup as one of the only players whose opponent is allowing an increase in points scored (+10.3%) to the position.

Value Pick

Harrison Barnes (DAL) $6,100

With all of the injuries the Mavericks are dealing with, Barnes has stepped up scoring at least 20 points in five straight games. If Deron Williams and Dirk Nowitzki remain out in addition to JJ Barea, Barnes will play a lot of minutes and be the main offensive threat for the Mavericks against the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies have a solid defense but have allowed an additional 12.8% points to opposing SF this season.

Other Options: Kevin Durant (GS) $9,700 / Paul George (IND) $8,600 / Kent Bazemore (ATL) $4,800

Power Forwards

Top Pick

Draymond Green (GS) $8,200

Green tweaked his right ankle in the previous game but assuming he plays he is in a great spot on Friday night against the Celtics who have been destroyed by power forwards in all the statistical categories this season. This all-around production fits right into Green’s wheelhouse as he should threaten for his first triple-double of the season.

Value Pick

Thaddeus Young (IND) $5,200

Young is another player you pretty much know what you are going to get from on a nightly basis. He has scored 22 to 27 FanDuel points in each of his last five games and might be able to hit the high end of that range on Friday against the Suns. The Suns have allowed additional production to opposing power forward across the board including points (+17.6%) and rebounds (+5.2%). Young is a solid cash game play but has limited upside for GPP lineups. If Anthony Davis is out, then look to pivot to Terrence Jones.

Other Options: Anthony Davis (NO) $11,400 / Blake Griffin (LAC) $8,800 / Terrence Jones (NO) $5,000

Centers

Top Pick

DeMarcus Cousins (SAC) $9,800

Tonight might be a good night to pay down at center with numerous solid value options to choose from. If you do want to play up at center then you might as well go all the way to the top and roster Cousins. He has scored at least 44.8 FanDuel points in each of his last five games including a 54.4 FD points performance against the Spurs in his last game.

Value Pick

Steven Adams (OKC) $5,000

Adams has struggled recently but should get big minutes Friday against Brook Lopez and the Nets. Adams should be able to take advantage of the weak Nets interior defense who have allowed increased production to opposing centers across the board including points (+13.7%), rebounds (+2.7%) and blocks (+20.7%).

Other Options: Myles Turner (IND) $6,100 / Mason Plumlee (POR) $5,100 / Kelly Olynyk (BOS) $4,000

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
