NBA DFS FanDuel Lineup Advice (1/13/2017)

Happy Friday the 13th to everyone. Hopefully, the day doesn’t cause any freak accidents on the hardwood for tonight’s nine-game NBA slate. I am going to switch up my format a little bit this week. Instead of the “Top Play” turning out to be the highest-priced stud player for each position which it easily could on most nights, I am only going to pick “One Stud” who is priced over $9,000 on FanDuel as my stud to pay up for on the night since many times you can only fit in one high-priced stud player into your lineup. Then for each position, I will continue to give a “Top Play” who comes in under $9,000 and finally a “Value Pick” that is under $6,000. Hit me up on Twitter @Rotopilot if you have any feedback on the new format.

As always be sure to watch for late-breaking news before finalizing your lineup. So, with that here are my FanDuel player recommendations for the Friday slate…

NBA DFS FanDuel lineup advice for January 13th

One Stud

LeBron James (CLE) $9,900

There are quite a few solid options for the high-priced stud to target but I’m going with James who has the right combination of motivation (Cavs have lost two straight), matchup (facing a weak Kings defense) and price (saving around $2,000 off Russell Westbrook and James Harden). James should stuff the stat sheet tonight and far exceed the rest of a weak SF position making him worthy of the “one stud” to roster.

Point Guards

Top Play

Mike Conley (MEM) $7,900

Conley has been playing fantastic lately averaging 41.2 FanDuel points in his last four games. Friday he gets an up-tempo game for the Grizzlies as they face the Rockets in Houston with one of the highest Vegas totals on the slate. Meanwhile, the Rockets have allowed increased production to opposing PG this season in points (+6.9%), assists (+1.6%) and steals (+18.2%).

Value Pick

T.J. McConnell (PHI) $5,400

The Sixers are actually winning some games recently which as coincided with McConnell’s increase in playing time. Even with Sergio Rodriguez back, McConnell still averaged over 26 FanDuel points in his last two games. He has played at least 34 minutes in each of his last five games and should get plenty of run again on Friday against the Hornets.

Other Options: Kyle Lowry (TOR) $9,200 / Isaiah Thomas (BOS) $9,000 / Ricky Rubio (MIN) $6,200

Shooting Guards

Top Pick

C.J. McCollum (POR) $8,600

McCollum has been on fire for the Blazers recently. Ever since he had to pick up the slack when Damian Lillard was out, McCollum has posted huge numbers including an average of 43 FanDuel points over the last four games with Lillard back. He will get a solid matchup at home against the Magic who have allowed increased production in rebounds (+6.9%) and assists (+8.6%) to opposing SG.

Value Pick

Allen Crabbe (POR) $4,300

Two players from the same team at the same position? Yep. Crabbe has had two of his best games of the season over the last week scoring over 32 FanDuel points against the Cavaliers and Pistons. He consistently gets minutes in the Blazers rotation and if his shot is on he is capable of putting up a good fantasy day.

Other Options: DeMar DeRozan (TOR) $9,400 / Nicolas Batum (CHA) $7,500 / Victor Oladipo (OKC) $5,700

Small Forwards

Top Pick

Rudy Gay (SAC) $6,900

If you decide not to pay up for LeBron, then his opponent Rudy Gay is the next best option at the position. The Cavaliers have struggled to stop opposing SF this season allowing increased production in points, rebounds, assists and steals to the position. Gay has averaged 35 minutes over the last three games since returning from his latest injury and will need a good game for the Kings to stay with the Cavaliers.

Value Pick

DeMare Carroll (TOR) $3,800

If you are paying up for LeBron at SF, then Carroll is the perfect cheap compliment at the position. His floor is about 5x his salary and he has the potential for bigger output given the big minutes that he is now playing on a nightly basis. On top of that, he gets a very favorable matchup against the Nets who have allowed more points (+15.8%) and rebounds (+16.0%) to the SF position.

Other Options: Gordon Hayward (UTH) $7,400 / Aaron Gordon (ORL) $4,900 / Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) $4,700

Power Forwards

Top Pick

Paul Millsap (ATL) $8,100

Seems like Millsap could make the list in pretty much every game he plays thanks to his consistent production and reasonable price tag. Millsap has scored at least 32 FanDuel points in each of his last seven games and has the upside to get into the 40s on any given night. Friday night could be that night as he gets a favorable matchup against the Celtics in what should be a close competitive game. The Celtics have allowed increased production in points, rebounds, assists and steals which is perfect for a stat stuffer like Millsap.

Value Pick

Enes Kanter (OKC) $5,900

Kanter has really improved his production recently scoring over 30 FanDuel points in five of his last seven games. He should play solid minutes again on Friday against the Timberwolves’ bigs which should lead to another productive night.

Other Options: Serge Ibaka (ORL) $6,700 / Trevor Booker (BKN) $5,400 / Derrick Favors (UTH) $4,700

Centers

Top Pick

Hassan Whiteside (MIA) $8,600

Whiteside looks to be fully healthy again after putting up 28 points and 20 boards against the Warriors in his last game. He will face off against the Bucks who like to drive the ball to the basket which could lead to a “block party” for Whiteside. The Bucks have allowed an increase in rebounding (+2.8%) and blocks (+1.7%) which plays right into Whiteside’s game.

Value Pick

Cody Zeller (CHA) $4,900

This value pick could just read “Hornets Center” as both Cody Zeller and Spencer Hawes ($4,000) are cheap options to consider depending on Zeller’s health. It sounds like Zeller will return to the lineup after missing Tuesday’s game with an illness. If he is active and starts, then Hawes becomes unplayable but Zeller then becomes a very solid cheap center option who should around 5x his salary in a favorable matchup against the Sixers.

Other Options: Marc Gasol (MEM) $8,200 / Joel Embiid (PHI) $7,800 / Dwight Howard (ATL) $7,600

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
