NBA DFS FanDuel Lineup Advice (1/20/2017)

Friday night features a nice nine-game NBA slate including a matchup between the Warriors and Rockets that has a Vegas total of about 236 with a relatively close spread of five points. Be sure to get some exposure to that matchup!

Sticking with my new format by picking “One Stud” who is priced over $9,000 on FanDuel as my stud to pay up for on the night. Then for each position, I will continue to give a “Top Play” who comes in under $9,000 and finally a “Value Pick” that is under $6,000. Hit me up on Twitter @Rotopilot if you have any feedback on the new format.

As always be sure to watch for late-breaking news before finalizing your lineup. So, with that here are my FanDuel player recommendations for the Friday slate…

NBA DFS FanDuel lineup advice for January 20, 2017

One Stud

Kevin Durant (GS) $10,500

With the Warriors/Rockets as the featured game of the night, it makes sense to that the stud of the night comes from that matchup. Durant has the perfect combination of safety with a high floor (at least 40 FanDuel points in his last seven games) and upside (put up 64.4 FanDuel points in his last game). He also has the benefit of a favorable matchup against the Rockets who have allowed more points (+9.6%) to opposing SF and he is $1,700 cheaper than James Harden.

Point Guards

Top Play

Mike Conley (MEM) $7,700

Conley had a little bit of a down game on Wednesday playing only 31 minutes while scoring just 27.6 FanDuel points. But prior to Wednesday, Conley had topped 34 FanDuel points in six straight games including two games with over 48+ FanDuel points. Tonight, Conley gets an increased tempo matchup against the Kings who have allowed an increase in points (+8.6%) and steals (+10.8%) to opposing PG.

Value Pick

Patrick Beverley (HOU) $5,700

Beverley is an inexpensive way to get some exposure to the Rockets/Warriors matchup. Priced at just $5,700, Beverley has scored at least 27 FanDuel points in each of last three games. He should play big minutes as the best Rockets’ defender to try to slow down Stephen Curry which will translate into him stuffing the stat sheet tonight.

Other Options: Stephen Curry (GS) $9,100 / Jeff Teague (IND) $8,000 / Jrue Holiday (NO) $6,500

Shooting Guards

Top Pick

Klay Thompson (GS) $6,400

Other than Durant, Thompson is my favorite play on the Warriors tonight. He will likely be guarded by James Harden which is a matchup that favors Klay. The Rockets have given up increased production in points (+4.1%), assists (+3.7%) and steals (+20.9%) to opposing SG and Thompson is priced as a great value at just $6,400.

Value Pick

Tyreke Evans (NO) $5,800

Evans is still coming off the bench for the Pelicans and playing only around 20-25 minutes per game but he is becoming more efficient in the Pelicans offense lately averaging 33.3 FanDuel points over his last four games. Evan should be able to take advantage of a plus matchup tonight against the Nets who have allowed big increased production to opposing SG in points, rebounds, assists and steals.

Other Options: James Harden (HOU) $12,200 / Dwyane Wade (MIA) $6,900 / Lou Williams (LAL) $4,900

Small Forwards

Top Pick

Paul George (IND) $7,400

George has put together many huge games this season but his steady production and reasonable price make him a solid option tonight. George could be in a good spot for an explosion game tonight against a Lakers team that has allowed increased production to opposing SF in points (+8.3%), assists (+3.6%) and steals (+8.8%).

Value Pick

Aaron Gordon (ORL) $5,000

Unlike George, Gordon is hard to trust in cash games due to the volatility in his fantasy production from night-to-night. Gordon has scored at least 28 FanDuel points in six of his last nine games and his minutes have become more consistent playing at least 28 minutes in each of his last five games. Look for Gordon and the Magic to be rejuvenated playing their first home game in two weeks.

Other Options: Jimmy Butler (CHI) $9,800 / Gordon Hayward (UTH) $7,400 / Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) $5,100

Power Forwards

Top Pick

Draymond Green (GS) $8,200

Keeping with the trend of playing players in the Warriors/Rockets game, we now have Green who should fit right into a chaotic up-and-down game with a high number of shots leading to rebounds and assists. Green has scored at least 35 FanDuel points in five straight games and should come in around 40 again tonight.

Value Pick

Trevor Booker (OKC) $5,400

Not a lot of value at PF on the slate tonight, so we will go with a solid but unspectacular option in Booker. Booker’s rebounding makes him a steady value play most nights. He has scored at least 20 FanDuel points in 10 of his last 11 games.

Other Options: Anthony Davis (NO) $11,900 / Paul Millsap (ATL) $8,200 / Terrance Jones (NO) $5,200

Centers

Top Pick

Myles Turner (IND) $6,700

Turner has a lot of upside at a reasonable price at the Center position tonight. He has the ability to feast on weaker opponents and his opponent tonight the Lakers certainly fit the description. The Lakers have been destroyed by opposing Centers allowing increase production across the board including more points (+12.2%), rebounds (+11.8%) and blocks (+24.8%). He could be my favorite play of the night, especially in GPPs.

Value Pick

Cody Zeller (CHA) $5,000

If you are looking for a cheaper and safer option at Center without much upside, then Zeller is your man. He has a solid matchup against the Raptors who have allowed increased production to opposing big men in points, rebounds and assists and should put up between 20-30 FanDuel points

Other Options: Joel Embiid (PHI) $8,400 / Marc Gasol (MEM) $8,200 / Brook Lopez (BKN) $7,400

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
