NBA DFS FanDuel Lineup Advice (1/6/2017)

It has been a couple of weeks since I have been able to provide FanDuel NBA recommendations due to the holidays but it is good to be back. The Friday night slate in the NBA features an eight-game schedule which as usual hinges on who is going to play and who is not, especially in places like Cleveland. The Bucks fill my recommendations tonight as they have some cheaper options that are playing well and will be at home in a favorable matchup with the Knicks.

As always be sure to watch for late-breaking news before finalizing your lineup. So, with that here are my FanDuel player recommendations for the Friday slate…

NBA DFS FanDuel lineup advice for January 6, 2017

Point Guards

Top Play

Goran Dragic (MIA) $7,100

With so many questionable players at the top of the point guard position on Friday due to injury or matchup, I am going to drop down a price level and select Dragic who has averaged over 36 FanDuel points in his last two games and has a plus matchup against the Lakers who have allowed more points (+7.4%) and assists (+15.9%) to opposing point guards.

Value Pick

Malcolm Brogdon (MIL) $4,600

Brogdon has performed very well since entering the Bucks’ starting lineup with Matthew Dellavedova out. He has scored at least 31 FanDuel points in two of his last three games including 31.2 against tonight’s opponent the Knicks on Wednesday. Brogdon’s price remains low which makes him almost a must-own.

Other Options:  John Wall (WAS) $9,700 / Isaiah Thomas (BOS) $9,200 / Mike Conley (MEM) $6,900

Shooting Guards

Top Pick

Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) $10,700

Antetokounmpo’s confidence is growing in every game he plays including hitting a game-winner at the buzzer against the Knicks on Wednesday. He has scored over 40 FanDuel points in 13 straight games and has the potential to go for 60-70 FanDuel points on any given night. With a lower price tag and not playing in a back-to-back, I’ll take the Greek Freak over James Harden tonight.

Value Pick

Sean Kilpatrick (BKN) $4,700

Kilpatrick has been inconsistent over the last four games with Jeremy Lin out but is coming off a strong game on Thursday with 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists and he will get a favorable matchup for a shooting guard against the Cavaliers who have given up increased production in points, rebounds, assists and steals.

Other Options: Avery Bradley (BOS) $6,200 / Josh Richardson (MIA) $5,700 / Jordan McRae (CLE) $3,800

Small Forwards

Top Pick

LeBron James (CLE) $10,000

The Cavaliers rotation depends largely on who is able to suit up for Friday night’s tilt with the Nets. The latest news sounds like both Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving will play, which will somewhat limit LeBron’s upside and usage. That said, he does have a plus matchup against a Nets’ team that has allowed more points (+13.4%) and rebounds (+10.5%) to opposing small forwards.

Value Pick

Carmelo Anthony (NY) $7,900

If you are looking to get LeBron James production at a discounted price, then Anthony makes sense as a good pivot. Anthony put up 55.7 FanDuel points against the Bucks on Wednesday and with a tough loss in the game, he could come back with vengeance tonight. The Knicks may get Kristaps Porzingis back tonight (missed Wednesday game against the Bucks) which could limit Carmelo’s usage some but for just $7,900 against a Bucks team that has allowed increased production to opposing SF this season, Anthony still should be a solid play.

Other Options: Andrew Wiggins (MIN) $6,400 / Trevor Ariza (HOU) $5,900 / Otto Porter (WAS) $5,600

Power Forwards

Top Pick

Jabari Parker (MIL) $7,000

On a night without any high-priced “stud” power forward, daily players will need to decide between Parker and other similarly priced options who are coming off injury/illness such as Kevin Love and Kristaps Porzingis. Parker is my choice as the cheapest of those options, playing at home in a good matchup against the Knicks who have allowed more points (+4.0%) and rebounds (+0.3%) to opposing PF. With the Knicks attention focused on stopping Giannis, Parker could benefit

Value Pick

Gorgui Dieng (MIN) $5,600

Dieng is one of those players who always seem like he is underpriced a little bit. He has been very consistent lately scoring at least 28 FanDuel points in four of his last five games. He doesn’t have huge upside so I would limit exposure to Cash games but with a favorable matchup against the Wizards he should be able to hit 5x value tonight.

Other Options: Kevin Love (CLE) $8,300 / Julius Randle (LAL) $7,100 / Ersan Ilyasova (PHI) $5,800

Centers

Top Pick

DeMarcus Cousins (SAC) $11,000

Cousins is tough to fit into a lineup at a position with so many solid mid-range options at center. His rebounds have been down recently failing to hit double-digits in seven straight games and will face a Clippers team that suppresses opposing centers rebounds on the season by 12.4%. However, Cousins has the capability of scoring 40+ points on any night and could push for 40 tonight in a projected close game against the Clippers.

Value Pick

Greg Monroe (MIL) $5,500

Monroe has seen his playing time and production increase recently including three straight games with at least 30 FanDuel points including 39.8 FanDuel points against the Knicks on Wednesday. The Knicks are a positive matchup for opposing centers giving more points (+5.7%) and rebounds (+3.3%). Whether he is being showcased for a trade or just becoming more a part of the Bucks rotation, Monroe is a great value at the center position right now.

Other Options: Joel Embiid (PHI) $7,200 / Nikola Vucevic (ORL) $6,900 / Marcin Gortat (WAS) $6,500

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
