NBA DFS FanDuel Lineup Advice (2/10/2017)

I can pretty much copy last Friday’s intro with a just a couple minor modifications…

“Friday night’s nine-game slate could be a high-scoring day in DFS with a ton of high-priced studs available and every Vegas total coming in over 204 208 points. There is also only one game no games with a double-digit favorite so we could see some close games and potential overtime thrillers to push the DFS scores higher and higher.”

There, that was easy!

As usual, now, I will be picking “One Stud” who is priced over $9,000 on FanDuel as my stud to pay up for on the night. Then for each position, I will give a “Top Play” who comes in under $9,000 and finally a “Value Pick” that is under $6,000. Hit me up on Twitter @Rotopilot if you have any feedback on the new format.

As always be sure to watch for late-breaking news before finalizing your lineup. So, with that here are my FanDuel player recommendations for the Friday slate…

NBA DFS FanDuel lineup advice for February 10, 2017

One Stud

Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) $11,200
I have Anthony Davis rated higher based on raw projection tonight but with Jabari Parker going down in the last game and Khris Middleton not ready to play significant minutes in the Bucks rotation. So, look for the Greek Freak to step up his game and have the ball in his hands even more than usual the next few games. He should be able to take advantage of the Lakers’ defense and post a huge game like the triple-double he posted when the two teams met in Milwaukee last season.

Point Guards

Top Play: Derrick Rose (NY) $6,200

Rose is in a great position to come out of Friday night’s matchup against the Nuggets with a big stat line for a reasonable price. The Nuggets have been getting crushed by opposing PG allowing more points (+7.9%), assists (+12.0%) and steals (+27.6%) to the position. Rose is also coming off a 39.4 FanDuel point game which he could match on Friday.

Value Pick: Darren Collison (SAC) $5,200

Collison put up 40.7 FanDuel points in his last game when the Kings were without DeMarcus Cousins. Well, Cousins will be back on Friday when the Kings take on the Hawks, so many may just shrug off Collison’s big game. However, with fellow guard Ty Lawson doubtful to play, Collison should see his minutes get close to 40 and he has a good matchup against the Hawks who have allowed increased production in points (+1.3%), rebounds (+7.9%) and steals (+3.8%) to opposing PG. It’s a good night to roll with some cheap PG so you can pay up at other positions.

Other Options: John Wall (WAS) $10,500 / Jrue Holiday (NO) $7,900 / Ricky Rubio (MIN) $6,500

Shooting Guards

Top Pick: Bradley Beal (WAS) $7,500

Beal has been on fire over his last two games scoring 41.2 and 59 FanDuel points respectively. He has shot 56.5% from the field over his last eight games including 42.4% from three-point range. He will have a tough test on Friday against the Pacers but playing at home, Beal is still a solid value at a tough position to fill.

Value Pick: Will Barton (DEN) $5,800

With a depleted Nuggets’ team that is expected to be without Emmanuel Mudiay, Danilo Gallinari and Kenneth Faried for their game Friday against the Knicks, Barton will once again see increased minutes. In his last two games, Barton has played 37+ minutes while averaging 47 FanDuel points per game. He should have a shot at a “50-burger” against the Knicks in a game with the highest Vegas total of the night.

Other Options: Devin Booker (PHO) $6,800 / Klay Thompson (GS) $6,800 / Tim Hardaway Jr. (ATL) $5,600

Small Forwards

Top Pick: Carmelo Anthony (NY) $8,100

On the other side of Barton and the Nuggets in the highest Vegas total of the night is Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks. Other than one dud game against the Nets last week, Anthony has topped at least 31 FanDuel points in his last 10 games despite all of the trade rumor circulating. He will need to reach at least 40 to hit 5x his value tonight but facing a Nuggets’ team that has allowed an additional 6.3% in points to opposing SF, Anthony should be well on his way to hitting that number.

Value Pick: Rodney McGruder (MIA) $3,800

The selection of McGruder depends on if Dion Waiters is able to suit up for the Heat on Friday or not. In his last two games (one without Waiters), McGruder has scored 22.7 and 29 FanDuel points while playing 36+ minutes in each game. If Waiters is out McGruder should reach at least 35 minutes again and anybody with that much court time against the weak Nets’ defense will accumulate fantasy stats.

Other Options: Jimmy Butler (CHI) $9,500 / Andrew Wiggins (MIN) $7,600 / Wilson Chandler (DEN) $6,700

Power Forwards

Top Pick: Nikola Jokic (DEN) $9,900

I know, I know, I am breaking my “rules” again. Although I couldn’t bring myself to recommend Jokic as by “one stud” tonight, I did want to give him some extra highlight and gold stars so all you readers out there know that I am very high on him tonight. Jokic has been working his way back after missing three games with a hip injury and his fantasy production has been hit-and-miss in his four games back so far. Friday should be his “re-coming out party” against the Knicks who have no interest in defending opposing big men allowing huge increases in production in points (+13.8%) and rebounds (+7.8%). I would not be surprised if Jokic is the top scorer on FanDuel when the night is done.

Value Pick: Julius Randle (LA) $5,700

I’m double-dipping on players getting back up to speed after some time off with Randle. Randle missed some time due to illness but appears to be back to full strength playing 30 minutes in his previous game against the Pistons while scoring 22.7 FanDuel points. While the fantasy production wasn’t all the way back it should be against the Bucks on Friday who will be without Jabari Parker leaving some combination of Mirza Teletovic and Michael Beasley to try to slow down Randle.

Other Options: Anthony Davis (NO) $10,900 / Kristaps Porzingis (NY) $6,800 / Taj Gibson (CHI) $5,000

Centers

Top Pick: Marc Gasol (MEM) $8,400

Gasol’s fantasy production has been down the last two games averaging just 26.5 FanDuel points. He will look to rebound on Friday in a favorable matchup at home against the Warriors. The Warriors have struggled to contain opposing big men this season allowing increased production in points, rebounds, assists and steals. The Grizzlies will need a big game from Gasol to take down the Warriors so expect a big effort to feed him the ball. Gasol has averaged just over 38 FanDuel points in two meetings with the Warriors this season.

Value Pick: Willy Hernangomez (NY) $5,900

Hernangomez continues to be the beneficiary with Joakim Noah out. Hernangomez has played at least 20 minutes in each of his last five games while averaging over 32 FanDuel points during that stretch. He has a solid matchup in a game that should be high scoring against the Nuggets who have allowed more points (+3.5%) and blocks (+13.7%) to opposing centers.

Other Options: Karl-Anthony Towns (MIN) $10,700 / Hassan Whiteside (MIA) $9,100 / John Henson (MIL) $3,900

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
