Hello again GF2 fans! This week marks the 4th week of the NFL season and will conclude the first quarter of the season. It’s hard to believe we’re already in Week 4 when it feels like we just drafted fantasy leagues a week ago. Of course for daily fantasy, that statement is accurate.

We saw an array of players go off in Week 3, but we also saw some puzzling duds. Overall though, our Week 3 predictions were much better than Week 2. Now that we’re back on track, here’s a look at some GPP options for Week 4.

QB Cam Newton (CAR) @ATL $7,800

The Minnesota defense proved their legitimacy last week in their dominance over the Panthers offense. The Vikings rattled Cam all afternoon, finishing the day with eight sacks on last year’s MVP. Fortunately for Cam and the Panthers, they get a date with the Falcons this Sunday. Atlanta is off to a 2-1 start, but it’s been on the backs of the offense while the defense has been putrid.

The defending NFC Champions will have revenge on their minds this week after getting manhandled by the Vikings. The Falcons have given up at least 25 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks so far this season, putting Cam in great position for a comeback performance.

Quarterbacks

Matthew Stafford (DET) @ CHI $7,300 

Stafford has quietly been one of the better surprises to start the season. Unfortunately for us, DraftKings has taken notice evidenced by his price hike. Nevertheless, Stafford is still in position to continue his success this week against the Bears. He already has seven touchdowns through three games and has simply fallen in love with his new #1 receiver, Marvin Jones. Stafford should be able to put together another multi-touchdown game against a bad Bears team.

Trevor Siemian (DEN) @ TB $5,400

Trevor Siemian has looked calm and poised since the start of the season, and now may feel like he has this quarterback thing down. He had a breakout game last week throwing for four touchdowns in Cincinnati. Siemian could have a repeat performance again this week against the Bucs. Both Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas claimed they weren’t being used enough prior to last week’s win.  Siemian responded to those claims with three touchdown passes between the two.

The Tampa defense is suspect and has been friendly to opposing quarterbacks. Despite his four touchdown performance, Siemian is priced at just $5,400, making for a great value play this week.

Brian Hoyer (CHI) vs. DET $5,000

If Jay Cutler can’t go again this week, Brian Hoyer could have another big game in his place. Hoyer was outstanding in place for Cutler against Dallas on Sunday night, throwing for over 300 yards and two scores. He did have 49 pass attempts on the evening, but with virtually no running game, the same can be expected again. Priced at minimum value, Hoyer should easily reach value against the worst passing defense over the first three weeks of football. Keep tabs of Cutler’s status up until game time, and if unable to go as expected, plug Hoyer in as one of your top value plays of the week.

Running Backs

Melvin Gordon (SD) vs. NO $6,300

The Chargers have had a rough start to the season with injuries and a pair of tough losses. The bright spot on the team has been the play of second-year man Melvin Gordon. Gordon has successfully scored at least once in every game so far, and should continue that trend against th worst rushing defense in the league. Both Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman had a field day running away from the Saints defense on Monday night. Freeman rushed for over 150 yards and Coleman finished the game with three touchdowns.

Gordon will continue to be the workhorse for the Chargers with Danny Woodhead out for the season. His price continues to go up, but is still fairly reasonable for the time being given his consistency. Gordon has a very high ceiling and is one of the safest bets this week.

LeGarrette Blount (NE) vs. BUF $5,000

It’s tough to put faith in any New England running back, and given his relatively low price range, it appears that DraftKings is still not ready to buy into the Blount hype. It’s understandable, especially seeing as how Blount brings no value in the passing game, which is vital for PPR formats.

It cannot be denied though that Blount has been a force for the Patriots so far and taken a lot of pressure off New England’s young quarterbacks. In the final week of Tom Brady‘s suspension, and the current status of New England’s quarterbacks still up in the air, we should see another heavy dose of Blount this week at home against Buffalo.

Jordan Howard (CHI) vs. DET $3,700

Jeremy Langford has already been ruled out for the next 4-6 weeks, leaving rookie Jordan Howard with a heavy workload. The Bears did sign Joique Bell on Tuesday, but he should have little to no impact in his first week with the team. Howard has been the most impressive back in Chicago and finished with a nice stat line last week against Dallas. The Lions are pretty good against the run, but Howard will also have a strong role in the passing game, especially with Hoyer under center.

Wide Receivers

A.J. Green (CIN) vs. MIA $8,500

Green has been relatively quiet since his monster game in Week 1 against the Jets although he did put up respectable numbers last week against a stingy Denver defense. On a short week, Green gets a great matchup at home against the Dolphins. Miami is coming off their overtime victory against the Browns in which they made Terrelle Pryor look like a bona fide Pro Bowler. Green will likely be lined up against Byron Maxwell, who is mediocre at best. We don’t expect Green to rack up 180 yards again like he did in Week 1, but there’s a good chance he reaches the endzone again for the first time since that memorable day.

Kelvin Benjamin (CAR) @ ATL $7,100

What in the world happened to Kelvin Benjamin last week? The Vikings defense is what happened. The only player to come out worse than Cam Newton on Sunday for the Panthers was Benjamin, who finished the day with zero catches on one target. Granted, it’s hard for Cam to target Benjamin while on his back, but no one could have expected that one.

Like his quarterback though, Benjamin gets a great opportunity to bounce back against a below average defense. Call it an off week for Benjamin against what appears to be an elite Minnesota defense. Look for Cam to target his #1 receiver early and often in this one.

Terrelle Pryor Sr. (CLE) @ WAS $4,300

If you had Terrelle Pryor in your daily lineup last week, chances are you did pretty well. In one of the most interesting stat lines you’ll see, Pryor did a little bit of everything last week against Miami. Pryor not only caught eight receptions on a whopping 14 targets, he also played some QB in the ‘Wildcat’ formation. He played QB in college at Ohio State so it wasn’t totally surprising to see him running the offense. What was surprising was how effective he was doing it all.

The Browns could do something similar with Pryor again this week in Washington. Should he play both QB and WR again, Pryor is destined for another big stat line against a bad Redskins defense. Don’t worry about Josh Norman in the secondary. His acquisition has done nothing to help the cause in Washington.

Tight Ends

Dennis Pitta (BAL) vs. OAK $3,900

Pitta has been a big part of the offense so far for Joe Flacco and the Ravens. This week Baltimore hosts the Oakland Raiders, who have known to be friendly to opposing tight ends. The Raiders ranked dead last against tight ends last year and aren’t much better to start this season. Baltimore likes to run the ball a lot and keep a balanced offense, but it’s clear that Pitta has become one of Flacco’s favorite targets. Look for Pitta to again get around 8-10 targets this week.

Defense

Arizona Cardinals vs. LA $3,900

For three weeks in a row now, I’ve called the perfect game to target in daily fantasy. The only problem is though I’ve picked the wrong team, so take this prediction with a grain of salt. You may want to go with the Rams instead.

The Cardinals have gotten off to an unexpected start this season, and in hindsight, so have the Rams. The Los Angeles offense came alive last week in a big way against Tampa, but expect them to be knocked back down to reality quickly. The Cardinals should rattle QB Case Keenum in this matchup, creating turnovers, and possibly even score.
