NFL DFS DraftKings Value Plays – Week 3

I sure nailed my wide receiver value picks last week with Stefon Diggs and Travis Benjamin both going off for big fantasy days. Week 2 also saw a plethora of injuries around the NFL which will open up some potential value plays this week and beyond. That said, while many people will chase after the new shine object sometimes you just have to stick with an old reliable like Frank Gore. With that here are the DraftKings value plays for Week 3.

NFL DFS DraftKings Value Plays for Week 3

Quarterbacks

Ryan Tannehill (MIA) vs CLE $6,200

Tannehill should be able to take advantage of a Browns’ defense that has allowed an average of 290 passing yards and 2 TD through the first two games of the season to Carson Wentz and Joe Flacco. With Arian Foster likely unable to play the Dolphins could pass even more frequently than normal despite being a big home favorite.

Marcus Mariota (TEN) vs OAK $5,900

Mariota will be facing a Raiders’ defense this week that has already allowed 819 passing yards and 7 TD through two games (Drew Brees/Matt Ryan). While the Titans passing offense isn’t at the level of the Saints or Falcons, Mariota has been solid in each of the first two weeks throwing for an average of about 255 yards with 2 TD passes in each game. Look for him to at least duplicate those numbers again this week making him a solid value option at QB.

Running Backs

Frank Gore (IND) vs SD $5,000

Gore is not a sexy pick so he will likely be very low owned this week as usual. However, he is in a good spot playing at home as a small favorite in a game with one of the highest Vegas point totals of the week. Gore will face the Chargers who had one of the worst run defenses in the league last season and are giving up an average of 4.73 yards per carry to opposing RB so far this season. Gore will also grab a few receptions to raise his floor with 7 catches through the first two games.

Fozzy Whittaker (CAR) vs MIN $3,800

Whittaker is one of the beneficiaries of the Week 2 injuries with Jonathan Stewart expected to be out a few weeks. There is a lot of talk about fellow Panthers running back Cameron Artis-Payne as well, but I think that Whittaker is the stronger play this week against a Vikings defense that has been stout against the run but has allowed some production to pass catching backs allowing 8 catches for 92 and 2 TD through the first two weeks. Whittaker should get some of the carries and all of the receptions out of the backfield to give him a solid floor with some upside at a cheap salary.

Wide Receivers

Tajae Sharpe (TEN) vs OAK $4,700 (DailyFantasyNerd Value Play of the Day)

Sharpe is the Titans’ receiver to pair with Mariota this week. He was on the field for every Titans offensive snap last week and has averaged nine targets per game so far this season. This week he gets a great matchup against a Raiders’ secondary that has allowed 35 receptions for 564 yards and 5 TD to opposing WR through the first two weeks. Look for Sharpe to have a big day and score his first NFL touchdown this week.

Cole Beasley (DAL) vs CHI $3,200

Beasley has become a favorite target for Dak Prescott with 13 catches on 18 targets for 140 yards through the first two weeks. He does not have huge upside but is a lock to get at least 3x this value with a cheap price tag and high target volume.

Tight Ends

Dennis Pitta (BAL) @ JAC $3,400

Pitta has reemerged as one of Joe Flacco’s favorite targets this season after only playing in 7 games over the last three years. He was targeted 12 times last week hauling in nine receptions for 102 yards and should be heavily involved again this week as the Ravens offense could be in a potential shootout against the Jaguars. The Jaguars allowed the 6th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends last season and gave up a touchdown to Antonio Gates last week.

Jacob Tamme (ATL) @ NO $3,200

Tamme has had two solid games in a row and is currently leading the Falcons in targets with 16 through two weeks. This week he will get a favorable matchup against the Saints defense that was the worst in the league against TE last year. Tamme is a good cheap option to get some exposure to the Monday night game with the highest Vegas total of the week.

Defense

Dolphins (MIA) vs CLE $3,000

The Dolphins are close to a double-digit favorite at home against the Browns with a rookie QB, Cody Kessler, making his first NFL start. The Browns have already given up six sacks with three turnovers through the first two weeks and the Dolphins defense should be able to add to those totals this week.

Steelers (PIT) @ PHI $2,900

The Steelers will take on Carson Wentz and the Eagles this week. Wentz has been very efficient and has not committed a turnover yet this season but this feels like one of those rookie growing pains type of games. This is a little bit of “gut call” but I think the Steelers defense gives the rookie his first taste of the ups-and-downs of a rookie QB in the NFL.

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
