NFL DFS DraftKings Value Plays – Week 8 (10/30/16)

Some value plays were obvious selections this week such as Devontae Booker but to find some of the other cheaper options that could be worth rostering took some digging and may still need some help with late-breaking injury news before you fully commit to them such as Mike Gillislee.

NFL DFS DraftKings Value Plays for Week 8

Quarterbacks

Derek Carr (OAK) @ TB $5,900

Carr will travel to Tampa to face a Buccaneers’ defense that ranks 20th against opposing quarterbacks despite facing QBs such as Case Keenum, Paxton Lynch, Derek Anderson and Colin Kaepernick. Carr has topped 23 DraftKings’ points in four out of six starts this season and should have another 20+ point effort this week at a reasonable price.

Josh McCown (CLE) vs NYJ $5,200

McCown is expected to be back under center for the Browns this week in a favorable matchup against the Jets who have allowed an average of 296 passing yards and 1.9 TD passes to opposing quarterbacks this season. If McCown can match those numbers he will be on his way to smashing value.

Running Backs

Devontae Booker (DEN) vs SD $3,700 (DailyFantasyNerd Value Play of the Day)

With CJ Anderson out with an injury and landing on the IR, the door is open for Booker to take over the workhorse running back role for the Broncos. Priced at just $3,700, he should see at least 20 touches as a home favorite against a Chargers’ defense that has allowed the fourth most DraftKings points to opposing RB this season. Booker will likely be the highest owned player on DFS sites this week.

Mike Gillislee (BUF) vs NE $3,800

Last week it looked like Gillislee was in line for a bigger role with LeSean McCoy very questionable for the game. McCoy ended up playing and neither he or Gillislee could get anything going on the ground. This week McCoy’s status is up in the air again so monitor the situation closely but I think the Bills might be more cautious with McCoy this week opening the door for Gillislee to get an increased workload. It isn’t the easiest matchup against the Patriots but if we can reasonably project Gillislee for 15 or more touches he should still be able to pay off his cheap salary.

Wide Receivers

Ty Montgomery (GB) @ ATL $5,300

Montgomery is still listed as a WR on DraftKings even though he is primarily playing in the backfield for the Packers. He is coming off two straight 10 catch games with over 100 total yards and will face a Falcons defense that has allowed the most receiving yardage to running backs this season at almost 70 yards per game. Montgomery provides a solid 3 to 4 times his salary floor and could far exceed value if he can find the end zone.

Tyler Lockett (SEA) @ NO $3,900

Lockett is only worth considering as a GPP flier. He has not been involved in the offense much and has been working through injuries all season. However, if there is a spot for Lockett to break out it would be this week in New Orleans against a Saints’ defense that has already allowed three touchdown passes of 38 yards or more this season. I will just take one deep touchdown catch for Lockett to be worth is cheap salary.

Tight Ends

Gary Barnidge (CLE) vs NYJ $3,300

Barnidge has provided consistently solid production over the last five weeks with at least five targets and 57 receiving yards each week. This week he will get Josh McCown back at quarterback which should further increase his production. Barnidge has averaged eight targets for 75 yards and 0.67 TD per game over the last two years with McCown under center. He provides a solid floor with two touchdown upside for a cheap price at the tight end position.

CJ Fiedorowicz (HOU) vs DET $2,800

Fiedorowicz has been targeted at least seven times in each of his last three games and gets a favorable matchup this week against the Lions who have allowed six touchdown receptions by tight ends through their first seven games this season.

Defense

Cardinals (ARI) @ CAR $2,700

It was a difficult week to find an inexpensive defense to select. I finally landed on the Cardinals who have registered 20 sacks and forced 14 turnovers through seven games facing a Panthers offense that has allowed 15 sacks and 16 turnovers through their first six games this season. It doesn’t feel like a good spot for the Cardinals on the road against the Panthers coming off a bye but the numbers suggest otherwise.

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
