NFL DFS Value Plays Week 2 – FanDuel

Week 2 is setting up very nicely with two games that you want to get as much exposure to as possible with the Patriots/Saints and Packers/Falcons far and away to two highest Vegas totals this week. While there are a lot of high-priced studs on those team there are also a few value options that can pay big dividends at a reasonable salary as well. There is also apparently a lot of value to be had out west for the Chargers making their L.A. debut.

The intent is not to play this exact lineup as it will come in well below the Salary Cap but to use the players as a baseline of value options that can be plugged in and then upgrade to a better player with a higher salary at a few of the positions.

So onto the value plays for Week 2…

The LootCrate FanDuel Value Plays for Week 2

Quarterbacks

Phillip Rivers (LAC) vs MIA $7,000
Truth be told I will likely not be going with a value option such as Rivers in my lineups this week with so many high-priced options with great matchups and game scripts. That said, if I do pay down at QB, Rivers is my guy. He will face a Dolphins team in their first game of the season as they travel west. The Dolphins’ defense ranked 25th in passing touchdowns allowed last season and the Chargers will be motivated in their home opener in L.A.

Running Backs

Dalvin Cook (MIN) @ PIT $6,700
Cook and the Vikings offense put on a show on Monday night. While it will be difficult to duplicate on the road in Pittsburgh, Cook is too cheap for an RB that will get a heavy workload. He is also involved in the passing game with five targets in Week 1 which allows him to stay on the field and be involved in the offense even if the Steelers get out to a lead. This might be the last week to get him at under $7,000, so take advantage.

Ty Montgomery (GB) @ ATL $6,500
Montgomery will be a chalky option this week. His pass-catching ability is a tough matchup for the Falcons’ defense that just allowed Tarik Cohen to catch eight balls for 47 yards and a score last week. Montgomery played nearly every snap for the Packers in Week 1 and will be on the field a lot again this week for an explosive offense playing in a game with one of the highest Vegas totals. Do you want some fries with your chalk?

Wide Receivers

Davante Adams (GB) @ ATL $6,700
I’m staying with the Packers as we transition to the WR position. Adams had a quiet Week 1 with three catches for 47 yards on seven targets. However, he is coming off a 12 TD season and put up 12 catches for 74 yards against the Falcons last season. The Packers and Falcons have average 70 total points over their last three meetings so it should be a shootout with plenty of targets to go around.

Martavis Bryant (PIT) vs MIN $6,200
Bryant is one of my favorite plays for the entire week. He could be a little risky for Cash game lineups but he will be in almost all of my GPPs entries. With only two catches for 14 yards, I expect his ownership to be fairly low. Bryant has played in 12 home games in his career and has averaged over 70 yards and 0.9 TDs per game. With Antonio Brown getting attention from Vikings DB Xavier Rhodes, Bryant should be able to run free for some deep balls.

Chris Hogan (NE) @ NO $6,200
You will want to get exposure to the Patriots/Saints game this weekend and Hogan is a great inexpensive option. All of the attention will be on Brandin Cooks’ return to New Orleans and Rob Gronkowski always brings a party which leaves Hogan to fly under the radar a little bit. He was a popular selection in Week 1 but disappointed with 25 total yards. With Danny Amendola already ruled out, Hogan could scoop up some of the seven targets he saw in Week 1. Bonus play is to also use Ted Ginn ($6,100) on the other side of this potential shootout.

Antonio Gates (LAC) vs MIA $5,300
I’m going with a narrative angle at TE that doesn’t seem to be getting too much buzz. Gates is just one touchdown away from setting the record for all-time TD receptions by a TE and the Chargers are playing their first home game in L.A. Gates out snapped Hunter Henry in Week 1 and should find the end zone for his record-breaking catch this week.

Kicker

Phil Dawson (ARI) @ IND $4,500
The Cardinals have an implied Vegas team total over 25 and will be playing in a dome against a Colts’ team that surrendered 46 points including three field goals to the Rams last week. Plus, without David Johnson, the Cardinals could struggle in the red zone. Sounds like a double-digit day for Dawson at the minimum price.

Defense

Chargers (LAC) vs MIA $4,300
Much like the Jaguars were last week as my value defense, the Chargers are underpriced for a defense with as much talent as they have. Strong cornerbacks and pass rushers should have a big day against Jay Cutler and the Dolphins traveling to the West Coast for their first game of the season.

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
