NFL FanDuel and DraftKings GPP Lineup Advice: Week 6

Welcome to Week 6! On the surface, there does not seem like a lot of fantasy goodness to target this week. The Tampa Bay at Atlanta game should garner a lot of attention in what is the highest expected game total, set at 57. There is a 50.5 total set for the Steelers at Bengals game, however, this series has proven to be a classic AFC North slugfest each time these two teams meet. They know each other quite well and tend to play more of a “ground and pound” game, rather than airing it out.
This all being said, it is another week of football and another week of some DFS fun. Let’s take a deeper dive into this slate and find some of the best GPP options for DraftKings and FanDuel this Sunday.

Quarterbacks

FanDuel

Russell Wilson (SEA) @ OAK $7,600

As his price continues to drop, we need to ask ourselves, when is it time to jump on Russ? Believe me, I am fully aware of the lack of rushing attempts and yards. However, I would rather be the guy who played Russell Wilson before he breaks off those long runs than the guy chasing his points next week. It is a perfect scenario for Wilson in GPP’s. He is cheap, has a great matchup, and will be low-owned.
The Raiders are ranked third worse in points against, yards allowed, and third worst overall DVOA. In addition, the Raiders will be without their best past rusher this week, leaving Wilson more time to scramble and allow plays to develop downfield. This is a breakout spot for Wilson and the Seahawks offense which I want a part of.

DraftKings

Matt Ryan (ATL) vs. TB $6,800

He won’t go overlooked, but Matt Ryan should be the highest scoring quarterback this Sunday. A lot of people are talking about Jameis Winston, which is fine, but he is far more turnover prone and will be the highest owned at the position.
Ryan is having a great start to the season, averaging 26 fantasy points per game. Now, he has the best matchup of the season. With Devonta Freeman out, the run game will not be as effective against the Bucs who are coming off a bye week and having a much healthier Vita Vea. The Falcons defense is atrocious and Tampa Bay will put points up. Matty Ice and the Falcons will need to score a lot which should all funnel through Atlanta’s quarterback.

Others to consider: DeShaun Watson, Andy Dalton, Kirk Cousins, Jared Goff

Running Backs

FanDuel

Jordan Howard (CHI) @ MIA $6,200

Matt Nagy is on record saying how he wants Jordan Howard to be the “bell cow” back in Chicago. In the first two weeks, the Bears back received nine targets and showed promise as the defacto number one guy in Chicago. Then week four hit. Tarik Cohen took over and everyone assumed Howard will no longer be relevant. Well, Mitch Trubisky also threw for 354 yards and six touchdowns and no one is touting him this week.
Jordan Howard is a north-south runner who should feast on this awful Dolphins run defense. They set up nine-wide which is very penetrable to power-running backs. If the Bears get the lead early, as expected, the game script will flow in Howard’s favor all game and the Cohen truthers will be silenced.

DraftKings

Todd Gurley (LAR) @ DEN $10,000

There is finally a player priced at $10K! It seems like a lot, but here are a few factors to consider. First of all, at $10,000, Gurley needs around 30 DraftKings points to pay off 3X value. He is averaging 29.3 DK points per game. Second, there is a lack of other top-tier studs at the running back position. No Kareem Hunt, Saquon Barkley or Alvin Kamara. Third, the matchup. The Jets were able to gash the Broncos last week for over 300 yards on the ground. Although we cannot expect the same kind of success, the Rams are certainly a better running team than the Jets. At this price, Gurley will probably be left off a lot of lineups. There are other pivots at a more reasonable price which will be more popular. This makes Gurley the most intriguing GPP option on the board, for that reason.

Others to consider: T.J. Yeldon, Chris Carson, Joe Mixon, James Conner

Wide Receivers

FanDuel

Tyler Lockett (SEA): $6,600 @ OAK

If we expect Russell Wilson to have a breakout game, then pairing him with his big-play receiver only seems logical. Lockett is a true burner who can get behind the secondary and put on a show in London. The combination of Wilson’s ability to extend plays and Lockett’s speed should make for at least one long touchdown pass. Doug Baldwin is not 100% and Brandon Marshall is old and losing playing time. The matchup is perfect as the Raiders are one of the worst and slowest secondaries in the NFL. Although he does not get a lot of targets, the ones he will receive will be valuable.

DraftKings

Julio Jones (ATL) vs. TB $7,900

I hate playing chalk receivers, but I am scared to fade a guy who has a massive upside in a dream matchup, at home. My prediction is that Julio gets in the end zone this week, finally, and puts up a massive yardage game against a very weak defense. If Mitch Trubisky and the Bears were able to put up 48, there is no doubt Matt Ryan and company can do something similar. Julio Jones is one of the top receivers in the NFL and has a higher ceiling than anyone else. He will be popular, but getting contrarian elsewhere will be my strategy, as opposed to fading “good chalk”.

Tight Ends

FanDuel / DraftKings

Jordan Reed (WAS): $6,200 / $5,200 vs. CAR

There is not a lot to get excited about at the tight end position this week. The top three tight ends in the league are no on this slate, leaving us with a lot of salary saving players. However, people are forgetting about Jordan Reed. A true athletic freak, Reed is still averaging seven targets and five catches per game. All of the Redskins wideouts are questionable and banged up. Alex Smith loves using his tight ends and although he was a disappointment last week, Jordan Reed makes for a great GPP consideration.

Others to consider: David Njoku, Cameron Brate, Austin Hooper, Trey Burton
