Swing for the Fences: DFS Home Run Predictions (June 16)

My hitters put up two homers on Tuesday including 40+ FanDuel points from both Corey Dickerson and Carlos Gonzalez. Today’s Swing for the Fences article focuses on the seven-game night slate of MLB action. With fewer games to choose from tonight, the players with good home run upside bubbled to the top fairly easily.

Here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – Salvador Perez (KC) – Perez has owned Justin Verlander during his career with a .477 average and seven doubles and two homers in 44 at-bats.

1B – David Ortiz (BOS) – Ortiz is mashing righties again this season with a .386 ISO against them and will look to take advantage of inexperienced Orioles righty Tyler Wilson in Fenway tonight.

2B – Daniel Murphy (WAS) – Murphy has hit all 11 of his homers off righties this season and faces Padres righty Erik Johnson who has allowed seven homers in 16.1 innings this season and 2.17 HR/9 to lefties in his career.

SS – Eduardo Nunez (MIN) – Nunez has crushed lefties this season with five homers in just 50 plate appearances on his way to a .375 ISO. Tonight Nunez will face lefty CC Sabathia who is due for some regression from his career-low 0.3 HR/9 and 3.2% HR/FB rate.

3B – Maikel Franco (PHI) – Franco has missed the last three games with a knee injury but is expected to return to the lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays lefty J.A. Happ. Franco has a .267 ISO against lefties this season while Happ has allowed 1.46 HR/9 to righties.

OF – Bryce Harper (WAS) – Harper is currently in a 14-game home run drought but will have a good opportunity to get back on the board Thursday against the Padres home run prone righty Erik Johnson.

OF – Joc Pederson (LAD) – Pederson can be a streaky hitter and has hit three homers over his last four games and will face the Brewers righty Junior Guerra who has allowed three homers in his last two starts.

OF – Curtis Granderson (NYM) – Granderson has a career .235 ISO against righties and will face Pirates righty Juan Nicasio tonight who has allowed a .411 wOBA and seven homers to lefties in 27 innings this season.

Longshot – Kelly Johnson (NYM) Doubling up on Mets’ lefties with Johnson as my cheap longshot option tonight. The Mets could be in a good spot tonight facing Nicasio who was forced off his usual schedule pitching an inning of relief (giving up six runs) on June 10 and hasn’t started since June 7.

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
