Swing for the Fences: DFS Home Run Predictions (May 25 – Night Slate)

It was good to get at least one home run prediction right in my first “Swing for the Fences” column on Tuesday. Today I will look to build on that and get my first multiple home run day on tonight’s eight-game slate.

Take a look at Tuesday’s column to get an idea of what this article series is all about.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – Brian McCann (NYY) – Career .204 ISO against righties playing at home with the short porch in right field against a fly ball pitcher in Marco Estrada.

1B – Mark Teixeira (NYY) – Has hit three home runs in nine at-bats against Estrada. With 80 degree temperatures and the wind blowing out slightly Teixeira is in a good spot to continue his success against Estrada.

2B – Derek Dietrich (MIA) – Facing Rays pitcher Matt Andriese who is due for some regression from his 2.11 ERA and low 3.8% HR/FB rate so far this season. Dietrich has a career .195 ISO against righties with 21 of his 26 career home runs coming against righties.

SS – Troy Tulowitzki (TOR) – Hitting home runs is about the only fantasy value Tulo is bringing to the table this season with eight homers. Tonight he faces Ivan Nova who has a 21.1% HR/FB rate so far this season.

3B – Pedro Alvarez (BAL) – Alvarez almost made my list on yesterday but I was scared off because he had been so cold at the plate. Well, the streaky Alvarez heated up with a home run yesterday and is in a good spot again tonight against righty Collin McHugh who Alvarez homered against in his only career at-bat.

OF – Giancarlo Stanton (MIA) – After suffering through a terrible slump where he struck out 17 times over a six-game stretch, Stanton responded with a home run yesterday. Look for him to make it two games in a row tonight against the Rays’ Andriese.

OF – Jose Bautista (TOR) – Bautista has hit three home runs in five games since moving to the leadoff spot. Tonight he faces the home-run prone Ivan Nova in 80-degree weather with the wind blowing slightly out.

OF – Yasiel Puig (LAD) – As long as Puig doesn’t get benched tonight for his home run pose on a ball that went off the fence last night, look for Puig to give maximum effort tonight in a solid matchup against the Reds’ Dan Straily who has given up 1.29 HR/9 during his career.

Longshot – Kelly Johnson (ATL) Has a career .175 ISO against righties in his career and faces the Brewers rookie righty Junior Guerra tonight. Guerra has limited the long ball so far this season but has allowed 35.4% hard contact and a 42.9% flyball rate so far this season.
