Swing for the Fences: DFS Home Run Predictions (May 27)

Welcome to the Friday edition of Swing for the Fences. I ended up with a lot of players that did not play (DNP) in Wednesday’s Swing for the Fences column. So tonight hopefully my recommendation will be in the starting lineup first and foremost, and then go deep.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – Welington Castillo (ARI) – At home in the desert tonight with temperatures close to 90 degrees against lefty Christian Friedrich who has given up 1.3 HR/9 to righties in his career.

1B – David Ortiz (BOS) – Has 11 of his 12 home runs this season against righties and faces Aaron Sanchez tonight who has given up a .420 slugging percentage to lefties in his career.

2B – Ian Kinsler (DET) – Has a career .201 ISO against lefties and gets to face rookie lefty Sean Manaea tonight who has given up four homers to righties in through his first five starts.

SS – Trevor Story (COL) – Playing at Coors Field tonight against Matt Cain who allowed 1.78 HR/9 last season and 1.38 HR/9 so far this season. Plus, Story has already hit a homer off Cain this season in six at-bats.

3B – Adrian Beltre (TEX) – Had a .237 ISO against lefties last season (.173 so far this season) and will face Pirates lefty Jon Niese tonight who has given up 1.87 HR/9 this season. Beltre has also hit a home run off Niese in three career at-bats.

OF – Mike Trout (LAA) – Trout is always a threat to go deep and has a good chance tonight facing Mike Fiers who has a 21.4% HR/FB this season and has allowed 1.19 HR/9 in his career.

OF – Andrew McCutchen (PIT) – Gets a favorable park shift tonight playing in Texas with warm temperatures facing lefty Cole Hamels and a Rangers bullpen that has allowed the second-most home runs this season (27).

OF – Jay Bruce (CIN) – Bruce homered off Brewers starting pitcher Zach Davies last season and has crushed righties this season with a .277 ISO.

Longshot – Franklin Gutierrez (SEA) Gutierrez is a known lefty masher with a career .199 ISO against southpaws. Tonight he will face Twins rookie lefty Pat Dean making just his second big league start.

The GoingFor2 Live Podcast

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
