Swing for the Fences: DFS HR Predictions for FanDuel and DraftKings (5/11)

Introduction

Wednesday’s lineup was a complete bust but I’ll look to bounce back with some Friday night fireworks on a big 14-game slate where there are a lot of good spots for hitters. Fridays have treated me well this season, so let’s keep it going.

Prices included for FanDuel and DraftKings to help find where the best value may be and positions are based on FanDuel.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

C – Evan Gattis (HOU) (FanDuel: $2,000 / DraftKings: $3,300) – Gattis has hit three homers in 29 career at-bats against lefty Cole Hamels.

1B – Cody Bellinger (LAD) (FanDuel: $3,400 / DraftKings: $4,300) – Matt Harvey pitches his first game for the Reds tonight against the Dodgers so look for Bellinger to take advantage of his 2.68 HR/9 given up to lefties last season (2.77 this year).

2B – Jason Kipnis (CLE) (FanDuel: $2,600 / DraftKings: $3,600) – Lefties hit 1.58 HR/9 off Jason Hammel last season and Kipnis is a cheap option hitting near the top of the lineup in a good offense.

SS – Didi Gregorius (NYY) (FanDuel: $4,100 / DraftKings: $4,600) – Gregorius is ice cold right now but a matchup at home against righty Kendall Graveman who was recently demoted to the minors and has allowed 2.03 HR/9 to lefties this season should get him back on track.

3B – Jose Ramirez (CLE) (FanDuel: $4,200 / DraftKings: $5,100) – Ramirez has extra-base hits in eight of his last 10 games including three homers.

OF – Charlie Blackmon (COL) (FanDuel: $5,000 / DraftKings: $5,500) – Blackmon let many DFS players down on Thursday which is even more reason to go back to him on Friday playing at Coors Field against Brewers righty Brandon Woodruff.

OF – George Springer (HOU) (FanDuel: $4,600 / DraftKings: $4,800) – Springer has nine hits over his last three games including three for extra bases.

OF – Adam Jones (BAL) (FanDuel: $2,600 / DraftKings: $3,500) – Jones has a six-game hitting streak that has included two long balls and his salary is still very reasonable.

Longshot – Joc Pederson (LAD) (FanDuel: $2,400 / DraftKings: $3,900) – See Cody Bellinger.

Cheap Pitching options
FanDuel – Jameson Taillon ($7,400), Luke Weaver ($5,900)
DraftKings – Luke Weaver ($7,900), Jameson Taillon ($7,300)

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
