Swing for the Fences: DFS HR Predictions for FanDuel and DraftKings (5/9)

Introduction

I thought it was going to be another good night on Tuesday after my longshot pick, Aaron Altherr, homered in his first at-bat early in the night but it went downhill from there. My longshots have been going crazy recently with five home runs in my last four lineups. Let’s see if today’s longshot can keep the streak going on Wednesday night’s seven-game slate.

Prices included for FanDuel and DraftKings to help find where the best value may be and positions are based on FanDuel.

So with that here is who will be swinging for the fences today…

Lineup

C – Mike Zunino (SEA) (FanDuel: $2,700 / DraftKings: $3,300) – Zunino has homered in two of his last three games and faces lefty Jaime Garcia who has allowed at least one home run in all six of his starts this season.

1B – Justin Smoak (TOR) (FanDuel: $3,300 / DraftKings: $3,500) – Smoak has homered in both of his career at-bats against Wade LeBlanc.

2B – Jonathan Schoop (BAL) (FanDuel: $2,700 / DraftKings: $3,500) – You will see a slew of Orioles in my lineup tonight with them facing Royals lefty Eric Skoglund who has served up a .395 wOBA and 1.40 HR/9 so far in his young career.

SS – Manny Machado (BAL) (FanDuel: $4,500 / DraftKings: $4,900)  – Machado is currently on the home run drought of nine games but a favorable matchup against lefty Skoglund and a career .216 ISO at home against lefties could put an end to that.

3B – Mike Moustakas (KC) (FanDuel: $3,900 / DraftKings: $4,100) – Moustakas hit two bombs last night and faces righty Andrew Cashner who has allowed a 2.55 HR/9 to lefties this season.

OF – A.J. Pollock (ARI) (FanDuel: $4,400 / DraftKings: $5,100) – Pollock is batting .429 with three doubles and a pair of homers off lefty Alex Wood in 21 career at-bats.

OF – Nelson Cruz (SEA) (FanDuel: $3,700 / DraftKings: $4,200) – Cruz is always an option when facing a lefty with a .421 wOBA and .333 ISO against southpaws this season.

OF – Mark Trumbo (BAL) (FanDuel: $2,800 / DraftKings: $3,800) – Trumbo hasn’t homered yet this season since returning from the DL seven games ago but he is batting .310 with a pair of doubles so it is only a matter of time before the ball starts leaving the yard for Trumbomb.

Longshot – Danny Valencia (BAL) (FanDuel: $2,300 / DraftKings: $3,100) – Can Valencia make it five straight lineups where my longshot hits a homer? The matchup is good and he did go deep last night.

Cheap Pitching options
FanDuel – Julio Teheran ($7,400), Nick Pivetta ($6,700)
DraftKings – Julio Teheran ($8,900), Masahiro Tanaka ($8,500), Alex Wood ($7,600)

Brad Richter

Growing up, I was always intrigued with stats, from the back of baseball, football and basketball cards to playing dice rolling simulation games, while tracking the stats for the players on my team. My fantasy sports obsession began in college running fantasy football leagues with friends and has expanded into playing in both fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball leagues, and most recently Daily Fantasy Sports. I consider myself a “stats guy” by nature and lean on data to back up my advice and analysis of strategy techniques and player evaluations. That said, I have also always felt that sometimes you must go with a gut instinct based on things you have seen watching players play, even when the numbers don’t back it up. I feel that it is this mix of analysis that leads to the most successful formula when competing in fantasy sports.
