The Worst Joke in the NFL

Joey Bosa is right.

Your life really has to suck if you’re spending time going through tweets that are five years old.

This is typical though during draft season.  “Sources” and “Anonymous Scouts” leak things to the media about draftees in order to paint them in a lesser light. Teams turn over every stone trying to figure what character flaws these kids have.

And the saddest part of this entire process…none of it matters.

Who cares about Bosa’s five-year-old tweets? Who cares if player x took money from a booster?  Who cares if a kid got drunk one night? The only thing that matters is if the kid can play, that’s it.

Let me add a disclaimer, serious accusations like sexual assault and drug abuse deserve to be put under a microscope. That should go without saying.

The combine is a joke, and it has been for years. I’ve never understood why scouts sit and drool over a prospect because they can run straight really, really fast. Who cares if a Defensive tackle can bench 225 pounds 27 times? Who cares if a DB’s broad jump is 12’3”? The only valued part of the combine is the interview process but even that’s starting to be diluted with stupid and absurd questions. Remember when Jeff Ireland from the Dolphins asked Dez Bryant if his mother was a prostitute?  If that doesn’t refresh your memory then we can point to the Falcons asking Ohio State CB Eli Apple if he liked men at this year’s combine.

I know what some of you are saying, “but they have to say stuff like that to see what reaction they’re going to get and blah blah blah.”

Seriously?

If you think it’s okay to ask potential employees about their sexual orientation of a family member’s checkered past then you deserve to be socked in the face like Ireland and the Falcon’s coach.

If the combine isn’t bad enough then pro days take the cake.  For some, unexplained, reason draft stocks go through the roof after a prospect does a pre-determined workout. Pro days are especially helpful to quarterbacks. JaMarcus Russell was already getting his Hall of Fame jacket tailored after his pro day and we all know how that turned out.

Hell, I could look like a future star throwing against air.

The game tape should be the most valued, and talked about, measuring stick when it comes to the draft. What an athlete does when the lights are bright is a lot greater than what the do against dummies and coaches chasing them with brooms.

The most frustrating thing is that we have seven weeks until the draft…..joy.
