10 Winners and Losers From Eagles Stunning Upset Win Over The Saints
If The Eagles ever switch back to Carson Wentz, after how rookie QB Jalen Hurts played against the Saints on Sunday evening, in what was the biggest upset victory in the NFL this season, I am moving to Cannada to write about the CFL. Here are the Winners and Losers from the Philadelphia Eagles biggest team win since they won Super Bowl 52 on February 4th, 2018:
Winner: QB1 Jalen Hurts (obviously) Hurts was nothing short of absolutely phenomenal in his first NFL start. Not only did he lead The Eagles to victory…he also became the first QB in NFL history to run for over 100 yards and throw a TD pass in said very first start against the Saint’s top 3 NFL Defense and no. 1 ranked defense in the NFC….just amazing. Why the hell did it take Douggie P this long to start him over the much-maligned Wentz?
Winner: WR Alshon Jeffery. It was nice to see Jefferies as Nate Burleson affectionately calls him to score a TD on The Eagle’s opening possession. I never gave up on Jeffery. While others such as Jimmy Kempski repeatedly called Alshon cooked I knew this was not the case. He simply needed a good QB to throw him an accurate ball to be effective. Keeping Alshon around for another season suddenly sounds pretty damn good.
Winner: HC Doug Pederson. It turns out that having a talented true dual-threat QB1 allows good coaches to open up their entire playbook and call a more creative gameplan than weeks past with Wentz. Who’d have thunk? Pederson simply outcoached Sean Peyton and beat him in a game other than golf.
Winner: DT Javon Hargrave, LB Duke Riley, and the rest of The Birds Defense. The Eagles D sacked QB Taysom Hill 7 times and caused two turnovers. LB Duke Riley intercepted Hill, DT Javon Hargrave sacked him twice and DE Josh Sweat strip-sacked Hill to put the game on ice late in the 4th quarter. The secondary could have played better but I’m not going to nitpick especially considering that the Saint’s last TD came in garbage time. Swartz’s front 4 harassed Hill all game long causing 10 bad incompletions to go along with the aforementioned sacks and turnovers. Duke Riley had the game of his life and may just be a future centerpiece for the Eagles LB corps. He sure looked better than Nate Gerry.
Winner: Eagles fans (Finally!) After watching the birds struggle all year Eagles fans finally have a great victory to celebrate for the first time all freaking season. It was a great win and it was fun to watch. The Eagles with Hurts starting are finally fun to watch again!
Loser: QB Carson Wentz. Wentz was likely done in Philadelphia before Hurts lead the team to victory against the best defense in the NFC. Now the writing is cemented on the wall. Here’s hoping that The Eagles can get a 7th round pick for Wentz. I’d trade him for a used washing machine at this point if it gets him out of town for good and takes at least half of his bloated contract along with him.
Loser: Eagles playoff chances for 2020 despite the big win. There is still a chance for The Eagles to get into the postseason however they would need to win out which actually suddenly feels possible with Hurts at the helm, and they would need Washington to split the rest of their games which is possible yet unlikely.
Loser: QB Taysom Hill. This game proved that Hill is a gadget player while Jalen Hurts is a real QB (a dang good one too.) Enough said.
Loser: Saints HC Sean Payton and his ability to form an effective offensive gameplan with QB Taysom Hill at the helm and his ability to have The Saints Bus Driver take premature victory laps around The Linc ever again. No, It wasn’t just a rumor. Saints HC Sean Peyton had his team’s Bus driver take pre-game victory laps around the Linc before the Eagles dominated the Saints in the bird’s greatest victory in recent memory. Well, that’s embarrassing..for him.
Loser: Saints RB Alvin Kamara and his ego. RB Alvin Kamara is likely curled up in a ball somewhere in Nawlins. He’s finally done trash-talking The Philadelphia Eagles after he just wouldn’t shut up for close to two years about how the Saints would have beaten The Eagles in the NFC Championship game leading up to SB 52 if they hadn’t already lost to the team the Eagles walloped to get to SB 52…not exactly very sound logic by the young classless kid. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the Eagles would have throttled the saints if they could have managed to even meet Philadelphia in that NFC Championship game. It was simply The Eagle’s year to win the Super Bowl during the 2017-2018 season. Now Kamara can keep his mouth shut about hypothetical what-if scenarios.
